The debate has shifted.
People are no longer asking “whether” closer ties with Europe will return.
They’re asking “when” and “how”.
That’s a remarkable change in just a few years.
Ten years on, the political weather has changed dramatically.
More and more people now see that cutting ourselves off from Europe damaged opportunities, mobility, trade and relationships.
Rebuilding ties with the EU no longer feels impossible. It feels inevitable.
@MFishwreck@edwinhayward I think Ireland would actually prefer to be in Schengen than the common travel area with the UK. A united Ireland would certainly choose Schengen.
@TheRealJamieKay I loved Eldorado. A celebration of Brits exercising freedom of movement to live in the EU. See also French Fields and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.
@Br00klands@archer_rs Wrong, the darker grey refers to Ireland, an EU country outside Schengen. The lighter grey covers the UK and other non EU, non Schengen countries, e.g. Ukraine. It is confusing and would have been useful to have light grey on the colour key on the map.
