@Zarhle1 Lynn, MA to Newbury, MA to Hampton, NH: that’s a pretty long track for coastal New England. They’re usually no more than a couple of miles long out here. David Ludlum’s book has great records of some of the “first” (lol) tornadoes in the colonies, but I agree: there were others.

Tragedy in Alabama: The Guin, AL F5 #Tornado – April 3, 1974!

This detailed overview explores this destructive twister, one of the strongest of the outbreak and with one of the longest paths. It claimed 32 Alabamian lives and traveled over a hundred miles. Most notably, the town of Guin, AL, was nearly wiped off the face of the Earth, suffering the most significant loss of life. While the knowledge of Guin’s fate is deservingly prevalent, intricate details of this disaster have faded over the following decades. Communities such as Yampertown, Delmar, Oakville, Basham, and more, faced great destruction in their own right. Across the entire path, this work (and future chapters) aims to share the stories of the survivors, to preserve the memories of the victims, and to document all of the damage and surrounding history.

@ReedTimmerAccu @accuweather An interesting day in New England today, for sure. Tornado warning was just extended through the NH border until 9:15 a.m. and another in south central NH. Radar shows rotation moving up over the crowded city of Lowell in a few minutes. As you know, very atypical event for us.
