Be advised: Humankind has entered the first phase of the Quelling. We are increasingly handing over our thinking to artificial intelligence. As jobs that were once challenging and lucrative become easy and cheap, i.e. tech sector IT/programming, humans will find no incentive to learn these skills. Moreover, AI will revolutionize new ways of accomplishing these and other tasks to the point that the last generation of humans possessed of relevant skills will quickly become irrelevant.
Imagine a skilled COBOL programmer transported from 1986 to 2026 and asked to work on developing the next XBOX game. Future phases of the Quelling will see us merge consciousness with the machines, both in an attempt to keep up--you'll never get that job you want if you're competing with an applicant who can think at the speed of light and has the internet in her head--and out of a fear of missing out (FOMO).
Eventually, the Quelling results in demoralizing, soul-crushing fear in myriad forms such as agoraphobia, social anxiety, and basic physical worry. Human curiosity and desire for adventure--true adventure with unknown outcomes--will shrink to nothing. You don't want to go hang gliding. Why would you, when you can fully experience hang gliding down to the thrumming of your heart and the sweat on your palms without leaving your couch?
The Quelling isn't coming. It's here.
@elonmusk Good morning, Sir! Hopefully today you will reach out and let me explain how you could rescue authors who've been cut off from their audiences, all without spending too much. A great investment, at least it seems so to an outsider like me.
@elonmusk Good day, sir! It's me again, asking for you to provide authors a means to find their audiences again. That South American River no longer allows that, but you can give it back. And it would not be that difficult, either.
@elonmusk Hi Mr. Musk, it's your lonely-voice-in-the-wilderness with the daily plea for you to help authors find their audiences again. Only you can do it.
