These days mark the 35th anniversary of the massacres, ethnic cleansing & mass deportations of #Armenians in Baku.

❗️Within a week, #Azerbaijani organized groups, operating with the support of Azerbaijani authorities & amid Soviet inaction, committed heinous crimes against Armenians.

The majority of Armenians were forced to leave their homes, leaving behind billions in property & wealth, without compensation.

The January 1990 #pogroms in Baku, aimed at expelling the remnants of the 250,000-strong Armenian community, was preceded by massacres in Sumgait & Kirovabad (now Ganja). Approximately 400,000 Armenians were expelled from the country. The millennia-old Armenian traces in Azerbaijan's cities were erased, & their heritage falsified.

🕯️Paying tribute to the victims of the #Bakupogroms, Armenia believes lasting peace in the #SouthCaucasus is the only way to prevent such crimes from recurring.
