Nueva York. La actriz estadunidense Susan Sarandon fue detenida este jueves, junto a otras personas, por la policía en Nueva York durante una manifestación contra el primer ministro Israelí Benjamín Netanyahu, quien participaba en la Asamblea General de la 🇺🇳 #ONU.
La actriz Hannah Einbinder, de la serie ‘Hacks’, también había sido sacada por las autoridades de esta manifestación organizada por Jewish Voice for Peace.

Americans support Netanyahu’s arrest and extradition to the ICC by a 22-point margin. The United States can seize Netanyahu for crimes under US law and prosecute him in US courts when he is in New York City this week:

"Netanyahu’s myriad crimes are a matter of well-documented public record. And while his physical presence in the US is enough to trigger US jurisdiction, a number of the crimes for which Netanyahu bears responsibility have also been committed against US citizens, like teenager Mohammad Ibrahim, held without charge and tortured in Israel’s dungeons for over nine months before his eventual release, or 26-year-old Ayşenur Ezgi Eygi, murdered by an Israeli sniper while attending a protest in the West Bank, to give just two recent examples."

While Israel continues its genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, ethnic cleansing in the West Bank and persists with imposing its unlawful occupation and system of apartheid against Palestinians, PM Benjamin Netanyahu, wanted by the ICC for war crimes and crimes against humanity, is set to address the UN General Assembly in New York instead of standing trial at The Hague.

It is doubly shameful that the US government continues to ignore the arrest warrant against Netanyahu - while denying Palestinian representatives visas to attend the UNGA.

Nearly two years since the ICC issued arrest warrants against Netanyahu, impunity continues to reign - and Palestinians are paying the price. Continuing to undermine the ICC sends a cruel message to all victims of international crimes that prospects for justice remain elusive while the USA and other powerful states deliberately erode the universal value of international law.

All states, including the USA, should enforce the Court’s arrest warrants and hand over Netanyahu to the ICC. International law must be upheld and international justice mechanisms supported to end impunity for international crimes and ensure respect for human rights for all.
