⚠️ Update: With #Iran's internet shutdown approaching day 20, many networks are becoming visible internationally.
HOWEVER:
📵 No return to usual: Web still heavily filtered on a whitelist basis.
🔧 Circumvention still needed: The opening of protocols can enable new workarounds.
⚠️ Update: #Iran's internet blackout continues through its 18th day, obscuring the extent of a deadly crackdown on civilians.
Meanwhile, gaps in the filternet are being tightened to limit circumvention while whitelisted regime accounts promote the Islamic Republic's narrative.
On 20 January the Wall Street Journal published an op-ed written by an Iranian politician promoting the Islamic Republic's viewpoint.
Today, we wrote a letter to the Journal's editorial team requesting that they qualify the article, explaining how it was submitted for publication (particularly whether the Internet was used) and also highlighting that the Iranian public are denied the opportunity to express their opposing viewpoints due to the ongoing internet blackout.
🗓️ Update: Two weeks ago today, #Iran was cut off from the world by an extremist regime as the people went out on the streets to call for change.
With the digital blackout silencing Iranians' voices, authorities perpetrated one of the deadliest crackdowns in modern history.
⏱️ Over 300 hours have passed since #Iran imposed a national internet blackout to hide atrocities. Meanwhile, the regime uses whitelisted networks and places op-eds to shape opinion abroad.
Attempts to obscure the truth will be documented in real time: The world is watching.
⚠️ Update: With #Iran's internet blackout now past hour 280, the nation of over 90 million remains cut off for another day leaving friends and family unable to check in with loved ones. Meanwhile, traffic on select platforms points to an emergent strategy of whitelisting.
⚠️ Update: With the #Iran internet blackout now spanning its twelfth day, metrics show that national connectivity remains minimal. In recent days, the filternet has occasionally allowed messages through, suggesting that the regime is testing a more heavily filtered intranet.
⚠️ Update: Metrics show a very slight rise in internet connectivity in #Iran this morning after the 200 hour mark. However, overall connectivity remains at ~2% of ordinary levels and there is no indication of a significant return.

Received images with this description: "Kahrizak Forensic Medicine Center, #Tehran – Saturday, January 10, 2026"
Attached voice message (translated from Persian):
"I traveled nearly 1,000 km to get internet access and send these images.
They dump the bodies into containers. There were over 2,000 bodies that day alone, scattered on the ground. By the time we arrived, one full refrigerated 18-wheeler container was loaded.
When someone found their loved one’s body, forensic staff would register the bullet wounds, issue a coded permit, and families queued to load the body onto trucks for processing. The total was over 2,000–3,000 just that day."

What happened in #Rasht is beyond repression. It is a crime against humanity. People were deliberately trapped in one area, the Rasht bazaar was set on fire, and when firefighters arrived, they were blocked from extinguishing the flames. The plan was clear: either burn people alive or force them to run toward armed security forces.
Those who tried to escape the fire were met with gunfire. Unarmed and innocent civilians were shot. Many were killed by bullets, many burned to death. This was not crowd control. This was a calculated massacre.
The number of victims was reportedly so high that hospitals and morgues in Rasht ran out of space, and bodies were left in hospital courtyards. Families were left searching among corpses for their loved ones.
What happened in Rasht is hauntingly similar to the logic of the Holocaust and Auschwitz: trapping people, denying escape, and turning fire and bullets into tools of extermination. Today, that same brutality is unfolding in Iran.
The world must hear this. The crimes of the Islamic Republic must be exposed and prosecuted. Silence is complicity.
