How can #Azerbaijan—a country with a history of stifling dissent and exploiting its natural resources—be trusted to lead climate discussions? Hosting world leaders for climate action while silencing local activists reeks of hypocrisy. #SilencingActivists, #PrisonersOfWar #PoliticalPrisoners, and environmental advocates are what they're known for. The world deserves action from credible leaders, not performative diplomacy.

#COP29 en Azerbaïdjan, une problématique multiple :

👉 Des ONG comme @hrw et @amnesty critiquent l'#Azerbaïdjan, où les libertés d'expression et de la presse sont sévèrement restreintes. Elles jugent inapproprié que la COP29 se tienne dans un pays qui emprisonne des opposants politiques.

👉 Des associations écologistes telles que @Greenpeace dénoncent l'économie azerbaïdjanaise, fortement dépendante des hydrocarbures (pétrole, gaz), ce qui va à l'encontre des objectifs de réduction des émissions polluantes.

👉 Des mouvements pro-démocratie, comme @OCCRP , pointent la corruption et l’autoritarisme du régime.

👉 Mais également des militants locaux courageux alertent (au péril de leur vie) sur la pollution, la déforestation et autres ravages, et sur les impacts des industries extractives sur la population.
