Bedtime stories are nice, but news headlines could make them more interesting.
Why can't a child drift off to a tale of rare earth metals or the Strait of Hormuz?
So, I've built Real Bedtime Stories.
Each day a news headline is made into a bedtime story, complete with animations, to give parents a new option.
They're serious bedtime stories.
Years ago, @danwwang was kind enough to offer a couple of book suggestions to me and should anyone ask for recommendations on China, I will suggest his first. It captures the complexity of the country, the warmth of its people and challenges of the system in a nuanced way.
Having spent 2019-2023 in China, reading this felt at times like walking through Shanghai, or Shenzhen, or Dali, or Wanning... @danwwang does an incredible job of showing the broad system but also the personal, individual experience.
But my experience was immensely privileged. In the end, by the time I got my red code (but still negative!), the quarantine facilities were full... and my neighborhood committee simply put a lock on the outside of my door for a few days.
