Haven’t done tons of research but if only boomers are in mainframe & COBOL type roles, there will be openings for that in the near future. Talking JCL, DB2, CICS. I’d def be looking into maintenance and modernization for that as a niche
Normalize being very direct, very straight to the point and very assertive. A surprising amount of tension in adult life exist because people avoid saying what they actually mean.
You cannot keep thinking only about right now
Longevity has to be your #1 priority when considering your health, finances, faith, etc
Do what is required
This is free advice from an expensive psychologist. If you’re an anxious person, do everything for fun. Go to a job interview for fun. Submit documents for fun. Start a blog for fun. Anxiety feeds on importance. Don’t make everything a matter of life and death.
The quicker you act on realizing you have to attack life, not let it happen to you, the quicker you enjoy this journey versus wasting it on stress, anxiety, and worry
If you feel your parents didn’t set you up for life, then do something about it besides just complaining
In most cases you’re only carrying yourself and you have free will
Can’t fix the past, and the future is on you
Make it happen
Let 2026 be the year you get your confidence back and keep it
Low self esteem can rob you of so many opportunities

Things I want more people in my community to strive for (if you’ve already done it, then I’m clearly not talking to you):
- 1 degree or trade school certification minimum
- 750 credit score or better as a standard
- $5000 in savings minimum
- $70,000 salary or better
It’s not for everyone but a few basic goals to challenge yourself with
- Saving $1000-$10,000
- Getting your investments over $10,0000
- Having a positive net worth
- Reading 3-6 books a year
- Volunteering twice a year
- Working out 2-5X/ week
- Increasing your vocabulary
