Breaking space news: We have made our own solar eclipse in space! 🌘
Today, we release the first images from our Proba-3 mission, which flies two spacecraft in precise formation to create artificial solar eclipses in orbit.
Using a powerful instrument called a coronagraph, Proba-3 lets us observe the Sun’s corona, its ultra-hot outer atmosphere, helping us to understand space weather in ways we can’t from Earth.

#Proba3 releases first images!
Not only it is a demonstration of the mission's formation flying technology… but also a small revolution in the way computer models will simulate the solar corona and create ‘digital eclipses’.

First edition will address
🌱Space for the green urban transition towards more sustainable cities
📡Space for crisis preparedness towards a more resilient Europe
☀️𝐒𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 solutions for resilient spacecraft operations

🧐Do you know that you can see different #spaceweather phenomena in the Halpha images? Today we display flares and filament evolution and eruption.
👁🗨Halpha is a visible wavelength of the EM spectrum... plus we also use other wavelengths as 📻radio!
This is the Halpha flare detected today starting at 10:47 UT peaking at 10:51 UT👇
What is the ☀️ emitting? Electromagnetic radiation throughout the entire EM spectrum amongst which: 📻radio.
Space weather events such as solar flares or coronal mass ejections are often accompanied by radio emission. The HSRS observations 📈are rather unique radio observations in Europe that cover a large frequency range including the ones used by the air traffic controllers and some of the GNSS services.
