@amberwharding @CdLlortin5 She was 100% offered a hotel room and path to housing. The city sent a team to work with her specifically. The O st park gate stayed open an extra 2 days for her while DMHHS tried REPEATEDLY to get her to choose housing. SHE SAID NO.

She refused any housing assistance repeatedly for days before moving her tent. Again - YOU ALWAYS SHARE ONLY PART OF THE STORY.

@alopez_pdx You have been on DOZENS of DPR emails. Original start date for park renovation was Aug. 2021 & it was repeatedly delayed to give DMHHS additional time to work on encampment housing solutions. 5 died in the park. You always ONLY TELL PART OF THE STORY. @nigro4dc @charlesallen

@alopez_pdx Just checking in with you Alex...you prefer that another 5 people die in a public park? You seem hell bent on leaving dangerous encampments intact & ignoring the fast pace housing access provided to most with the pilot. You offered nothing but status quo.

@PathwaysDC This literally speaks VOLUMES against your organization’s stance against the pilot. These people would still be in the encampment without the Mayor’s pilot and rapid housing…Infinitely more effective than you all have been at getting rapid housing.

@RemoraHouse_DC To be honest...piling up mountains of stolen bikes in the middle of an encampment seems 100% likely to draw attention from neighbors & law enforcement. Maybe when you all visit sites, you should ask that they stop stealing. I don't think anyone wants to make their lives harder.

@RemoraHouse_DC I want everyone to have housing & access to rehab/ medical care as needed. I hope the city steps up even more and provides the much needed assistance. In the mean time, unhoused neighbors also have a responsibility to be good neighbors. Stealing mountains of bikes is NOT helping.

@RemoraHouse_DC There is literally an excuse for every single behavior. I really don't understand how you expect neighbors and surrounding communities to not be frustrated. You guys constantly get upset when people have concerns about encampments but always excuse the things that concern people.

@alopez_pdx @chenderson They died because they were left outside or in tents. Overdoses, exposure to weather, tent fires. Dangerous encampments and leaving people to die outside is the problem. PROVIDE RAPID HOUSING. Your suggestions are just more of the same.

@thewayhomeDC @kstreet_ing @charlesallen @chenderson Or perhaps your logic of leaving people to burn alive in tents, overdose, and freeze to death in dangerous encampments is flawed. Rapid temporary or permanent housing - given all the risks in the large encampments seems like a sound policy.

Leaving people to die in a park is cruel and inhumane.

@amberwharding I'm all for the city doing as much as possible to help those in need. At some point every citizen needs to take at least some basic responsibility for choices. WE ALL must follow rules & expectations for society to function.

@amberwharding I think the city makes great effort to avoid that happening. Any encampment engagement has at least 2 week notice to anyone living in the encampment. The residents in tents are asked to pre-move any belongings & there are also people there to help the morning of engagements.

@RobertWhite_DC Leaving people to freeze to death, burn alive in their tents and overdose in large unsafe encampments is CRUEL AND INHUMANE. The DC Council has not been effective for years… finally the mayor is at least trying to get safer housing quickly.

@amberwharding curious?...if the encampment is in a drug free zone next to a school?...we just put sharps containers & advise unhoused people to ignore the laws everyone else follows & ignore the safety concerns of narcotic buying & selling in a school zone?

We have seen you do it live meetings, email, and social media. Pinto took her own time to investigate...you just spew falsehoods.

@alopez_pdx @FeverPotomac @charlesallen Alex-THIS SPECIFIC CASE was brought up in the Council meeting yesterday. Perhaps you were not watching. CW Pinto testified that she called DMHHS to discuss. She gave the details that indicated they transferred home to be closure to family & provided plane tickets. @CMBrookePinto
