We had our White Coat ceremony yesterday @UnmcCop and it provided an annual reminder to me.

The reminder: Don't stop pursuing the goals ahead of you even if you don't know how the path will exactly look.

Each of these students are stepping into a program that has a path laid out for them on paper- *but* that path will lead to a diverse set of career outcomes. It's what makes the pharmacy profession unique- and it's exciting to see the start of that path for our P1 cohort.

The best way to know if you've learned something is to explain it to someone who'll call your bluff.

You can assume you’ll remember the information with passive methods or actively teach the information to someone to identify gaps in your understanding.

Our 5th cohort of Lebanese American University students received their White Coats this week! They'll complete their final clinical pharmacy rotations in Nebraska before graduating from LAU with their PharmD.

It’s easy to overcomplicate what drives progress.

Showing up matters. And if you can do it optimistically, you may have further joy in it.

The older I get, the more I realize reliability is the key to life. You’ll achieve much more by being consistently reliable than by being occasionally extraordinary. Show up, do the work, repeat. The recipe for success in any area of life.

The future of pharmacy practice requires more than just passing a test.

But most students aren't sure how to study for learning versus memorizing solely to pass a test.

We talk through three different steps with them:
1. Go to class and actively take notes- you have to take in the information and make initial connections, even if you don't understand it all at first pass

2. Take those materials and make personalized notes. A study guide, a Q&A notebook, concept maps, tables, etc. can all be put into "their own world" to make connections with the material.

3. Test yourself on the information. Study with a partner and teach each other the material. Ask questions of the information and hold each other accountable. Easier to do with a colleague, harder to do by yourself.

The best way to learn is to fail repeatedly in practice, so you can perform in real time.

You can study safely with passive learning or fail forward with higher accountability like creating your own understanding frameworks and working with others.

The best way to master anything is to accept you'll be terrible for longer than feels fair.

You can quit when progress feels slow or persist until the hours make you prepared to handle whatever is thrown your way.
