A season to remember! 🔥
73 points, clutch goals, big hits, and unbelievable defensive play all year long.
Congratulations to Carson Carels on being named the Eric Brewer Defenceman of the Year!
@WinnipegNews CYPRESS RIVER — It takes a village to raise a hockey player.
Carson Carels would be the first to tell you his just happens to include hundreds of cows, goats, peacocks and chickens.
My feature on Manitoba’s top NHL prospect and his unique journey. https://t.co/FvAMz0wJzo
COACHES: I thought the Wild did a phenomenal job last night protecting their one goal lead in the 3rd period. They were great at taking away the middle, were tough at the blueline on entries, and while they bended a bit as Dallas turned on the gas, they didn't break and were calm under pressure.
This Dzone shift is a great example. Dallas pressed, but they did a great job being in lanes, boxing out in front, taking away the guts of the ice amongst chaos, and ultimately got the job done.
Lots of good things to take away from this clip to show your teams!
Two early practice drills that I like, particularly number two (right)
Typically do without a goaltender early in practice (goaltender getting work with goalie coach) where there is a lot of breakout/rush defending focus. Tire is there to allow D first touch and forecheckers & supporting forwards to work off the puck, but can be removed
Can manipulate a bunch of contraints with this:
- Where does puck carrier start?
- Where do the D start?
- Forechecker & Offensive forward starting position/delayed release etc.
- Restricted to Strong Side Breakout or either side of the ice?
- Lots of retrieval reps under different pressure scenarios and also allows for screens/picks in fairly representative environment
Boy, Carson Carels is an absolute bruiser.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound defender has firmly inserted himself into the conversation as one of the top defencemen in this year’s class. If his name isn’t the first called among defenders in June, don't expect to wait much longer.
Gavin McKenna recorded 15-36—51 in 35 GP as a freshman at @PennStateMHKY to remain on top of the North American skater rankings, followed by four impact defensemen in the top five.

I have not seen a better video explaining the biggest challenges we face in youth hockey today. This is a must watch for everyone in our sport.

What a unique experience! Last evening, all four PMHA programs and staff attended the WHL game between the Brandon Wheat Kings and Prince George Cougars. Great to see former PMHA Male U17 Prep MVP/AllStar, Carson Carels, in game action! #FearTHeBuffs
Shaka Smart gave the simplest definition of culture I've ever heard.
Just 3 actions that explain everything about how great teams operate.
It sounds easy, but most teams never master it.
Here's what he said and why it's so powerful:
