This week, we joined governments, businesses, and civil society at the Wilton Park high-level dialogue — co-hosted by the UK Government, the Palestinian Authority, and the Government of Egypt — to explore how private sector investment can help drive Gaza’s reconstruction.

Drawing on lessons from our work in Ukraine, we highlighted how strong dispute resolution, export finance partnerships, and local private sector engagement can provide the confidence and stability needed to rebuild.

Insights from this dialogue will inform the Cairo International Conference on Recovery, Reconstruction, and Development of Gaza this November, paving the way for tangible frameworks that can turn recovery into long-term peace and prosperity.

Dispute resolution is key to investment attractiveness, says Davide Cichero @dcicher, Chief of Staff, International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) @iccwbo, at the #28thWIC. Countries are increasingly turning to the ICC’s International Court of Arbitration, which handled a record number of cases in 2023, to enhance investor confidence.

🇺🇦 Ukraine is continuing to strengthen its connections with global business associations. Together with the Secretary General of the International Chamber of Commerce John Denton, we discussed assistance to Ukrainian businesses, creation of war risk insurance infrastructure, and investment attraction. @ICCSecGen announced a new framework for resolving commercial disputes to support Ukraine's reconstruction efforts. @iccwbo is also ready to assist Ukrainian companies in entering new markets through participation in international business forums.

The G7 Industry Stakeholders Group, the B7 chaired by Emma Marcegaglia - Chair of the B7 Italy and CEO of Marcegaglia, held one of the best sessions I have ever attended on the Multilateral Trading System and WTO issues. With guests of Honor - Hon. @Antonio_Tajani, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, John Denton @ICCSecGen, Secretary General of the @WCO_OMD Ian Saunders and Canadian Ambassador to Italy Elissa Golberg, among other dignitaries. Strong support for @WTO and WTO reform, and consistent caution against protectionism seen as bad for business. Madam Marcegaglia put it well “WTO is Plan A for the Multilateral Trading System, there is no Plan B”. @ICCSecGen cited an ICC Study showing that absent global trading rules underpinned by the WTO, every nation loses and developing countries lose the most. Thank you B7 for this strong endorsement as well as the support to reform the WTO to make it fit for 21st century purposes
