The chicks are now reaching the age where they are more and more able to thermoregulate on their own. So, expect to see them uncovered more and more! They will also start to eat fewer, but larger meals around now

There might be the very beginnings of a pip on the top egg (bottom right side). A pip is a small crack in the egg the chick makes so it can breath air for the first time. Hatching takes a tremendous amount of energy and is a long, hard process for the chicks.
Meet the only native freshwater turtle in California, the Western pond turtle. These reptiles hang out in aquatic areas, sunbathing on logs and rocks. Due to habitat loss and invasive species, their population has declined greatly. https://t.co/J5GluldgtK
