The @DOGE team just discovered that FEMA sent $59M LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants.

Sending this money violated the law and is in gross insubordination to the President’s executive order.

That money is meant for American disaster relief and instead is being spent on high end hotels for illegals!

A clawback demand will be made today to recoup those funds.

I have seen many posts and many more media articles like this. I will give you some more data points.

First, let's check the statement and the numbers. The statement is not clear because it doesn't tell us if January is compared to December or January last year.
I checked against my data and found out that it has to be year over year.

Here are some errors I want to point out:
• UK is not -63% but -7.8%‼️
• Poland is not -50% but -48.8%
• Norway is not -44% but -37.9%
• Sweden is not -46% but -44.5%

So we have the fact that this year Tesla's January sales are down significantly year-over-year.

Now let me give you a little more context on last year's numbers. Last year was not a normal January, but it was pretty good, up 93% year over year, as you can see in this chart.

This was because the Red Sea conflict was coming up in December 2023. So the Tesla ships from Shanghai on their way to Europe had to divert around Africa. As a result, many deliveries scheduled for December were pushed into January.

So with that in mind, it would still be bad to only reach the same sales numbers as in January 2023.
But given the transition to the new Model Y, I think everyone should understand that this is pretty normal. A lot of Model Y buyers are waiting to see what the new model brings and want to experience it in person.
Right now, only a smaller group of customers bought the Model Y in January:
- Those who did not know about the new model
- People who prefer the old design
- Those who can't wait until the new version is available with more trims and options (right now we only have the launch edition).

But all the noisy posts and articles are blaming Elon's political involvement and statements without considering these two (abnormal sales last January and Juniper refresh) important factors. That's stupid and biased.
I don't like to get into politics here on 𝕏, even though I have a clear opinion.
Is Elon hurting the brand with his political stuff? I would say no. But what the media is making out of it is absurd and the image people are getting is certainly hurting the brand and sales.
