As a former long-time Bronx resident, born and bred, with many close NYPD friends, I have been following the Sgt. Erik Duran case, and today’s 3-to-9 year sentence is frustrating. A cop with a stellar record tried to stop a fleeing drug suspect without drawing his gun, and now he faces real prison time. Many of us believe the outcome is unfair. What bothers me more is the nonstop talk on @77WABCradio with zero action. You hosts spend hours criticizing Governor Hochul and soft-on-crime policies. John Catsimatidis regularly mentions his personal friendship with her. Sid and the rest of the lineup have massive reach across New York. Here’s a simple question: Are you even aware that Governor Kathy Hochul has the power to commute or pardon Sgt. Duran so he doesn’t serve any prison time? (The President can only pardon federal crimes, this is a state case.) If you truly believe this is unjust, stop just talking! Use your platform and your relationships to publicly pressure @GovKathyHochul for clemency. John loves talking about “common sense.” Well, this is common sense. Put your influence where your mouth is. Bronx residents who support our police deserve more than talking-head commentary, we deserve real advocacy. Don't just talk - ACT!
