Let’s not blame the Hindus of Ayodhya for the BJP’s defeat. Let’s look at the reasons and the arithmetic of the Faizabad seat.

Faizabad Demographics:

Brahmins: 12%
Rajputs: 6%
Vaishya: 4%
Yadavs: 12%
Muslims: 14%
Dalits & Kurmis: 26%

The opposition has a fixed vote bank of 26%. They need only 20% from other castes, whereas BJP votes are divided even among UCs.

-2009: INC won Faizabad, SP was 2nd.

-2014: BJP, SP, BSP, INC fought against each other and BJP won the seat by securing 491761 votes.

480730 Votes got divided among SP, BSP and INC.

-2019: SP+BSP, INC and BJP had a triangular Fight and BJP got 529021 votes and opposition got 516930 votes among themselves. This was after Balakot Strikes.

-2024: BJP again got around 499722 Votes and SP+INC got 554289 Votes. Margin of 54000 only.

If you see, Faizabad has always been a tough seat for the BJP.

This election had many issues:

- Strong Anti-Incumbency against 2 time MP Lallu Singh
- Lallu Singh Viral Video saying "will change the constitution if we get 400 seats"
- BSP giving a Brahmin Candidate against BJP and SP
- SP giving a General seat to a Dalit
- No Wave like 2014 or 2019
- Opposition votes not getting divided like 2014 and 2019

In Short, BJP got its fixed set of votes (around 5 Lakh), but could not add extra.

The MP's performance also played a part and also the propaganda against reservation worked for Opposition.

So, instead of blaming Hindus of Ayodhya, Party needs to find a new face and work on the issues faced by the people in Ayodhya.
