Celebrating @TaverlynShepard today! Taverlyn, a postbac trainee in the lab, won a poster award in the Physiology and Pharmacology discipline at @ABRCMS last week for her work on understanding how dietary protein tunes the liver-alpha cell axis! Go Team @deanlab8! ๐๐๐ผ
The next round of the free Edge for Scholars grant writing workshop taught by @sarahcdobson starts on October 21. You can register here: https://t.co/msqShIoQO6 This is a fantastic way to hone your grant writing skills and be ready for submission next cycle.
Outstanding week of science in beautiful Ebberup, Denmark! Fun to team up with Jakob @Alphacell_metab to teach the liver-alpha cell axis. Enjoyed @VanderbiltMPB and Dean lab graduate student @_Jade_Stanley's poster too. Many new friends. Tak, @DDEA_Denmark! Farvel!
What an Amazing Week at the DDEA Summer School! ๐
What was your favourite part? ๐ก
A huge thank you to our participants, speakers, workshop leaders and organisers for making this Summer School such a great experience โ and to the sun for shining all week.
See you next year!๐
Good morning/afternoon from Denmark! ๐ฉ๐ฐ
Ready for session 2 where I have the pleasure of hearing my own PI @deanlab8 speak about the liver-alpha-cell axis at the Danish Diabetes Endocrine Academy Summer School! @DDEA_Denmark
A lot of molecular and cell and developmental biology is concerned with figuring out the "functions" of various proteins. I'm starting to distrust that formulation...
@BetaCellBelle I'm so so sorry that your family is going through this. It's especially mindboggling that a healthcare worker does not even have access to affordable medications. ๐
Many of us would be thrilled to be a caring clinician, a great scientist, a popular division head, or aspire to be president of a leading academic organization. Imagine being all of those and also being one of the nicest humans to walk the earth. Happy 70th birthday Al Powers!
@BetaCellBelle Same. I had no idea what a stipend was or that I could get tuition benefits. Now I see the widening of eyes in my own students when they realize that they could actually turn their passion for research into a real career without taking on $100ks in debt for a PhD or MD/PhD.
