In this study we focused on web search, which is understudied relative to social media, and measured user choice as “engagement”—the URLs people interact with on the web or within a platform—and algorithmic curation as “exposure”—what users were shown while visiting a platform.
The trolling in response to this - including misogynistic slurs, threatening and hateful messages - are just more proof of why investigating this is so important.
