@zzxiaoxuzz@TBYSTweet I don’t even like OP much but I have to agree with the fact that N1 is not advanced Japanese. Any literate high school student would easily pass with flying colors. It’s not a hard test if you can read modern Japanese semi comfortably (I passed with close to zero exam prep.)
@tijger_streep@sacchxrinette I started learning Japanese almost 2 years ago, and I never picked a pen up after the first month. I'm now at the point where I can read regular light novels and novels in a few hours with minimal lookups (and N1), so I'd say that I turned out alright.
@starshas_gem@netakoh_ Completely fucking false lmfao. The Japanese government maintains a list of kanji for regular use and as the baseline for literacy. It consists of 2136 kanji. The average high school student knows that and a few hundred more at the very least from constant exposure.
@lemonogatari@Arka161 You can learn kanji by learning words with Anki and Kaishi 1.5k. Once you pick a few hundred words up, feel free to start a moege of your choice. Your interest and motivation to keep reading despite frequent lookups is the most important.
@lemonogatari@Arka161 As someone who started learning the same way, VNs are great even if you’re a beginner. Even with only a few hundred words learnt, reading easy stuff like moege is plausible. You don’t need to worry about your pace, since every hour you struggle helps. https://t.co/BhT6aMrxGo
