An election to pick who represents 0.4% of the population shouldn't be dominating national news. But unequal suffrage + the two party system means it could decide who controls the entire country's legislative branch next year. In a real democracy, Graham Platner would be a nobody
@pucadots i waver back and forth this one almost assaults you and leaves you wondering how and why in a good way but public strain is like it holds your hand while slowly injecting a fatal dose of morphine into your bloodstream. and i think i like public strain more but shaking hand = peak
it’s a dangerous path you take when you start talking about purging people and using administrative methods to punish people for voting the wrong way at a convention. In an org like DSA, you can vehemently disagree, you can even call someone a chauvinist, whatever, but we should not start punishing people for voting in the minority. I voted out of sync with my delegation most of the time, it had three SMC members, one Groundwork member, one CC member (the only other *hard* leftist) and the majority of the non-caucused were pretty aligned with SMC/GW on the hot resolutions. Only 3 out of 10 of us voted in favor of R22, putting us in the minority. They can’t get together and purge me and the CC comrade for not voting like them, and that’s good.
Ive been a longstanding DSA mocker but if ur gonna mock the DSA and specifically say your organizing is better you should probably mention what org you’re with rather than being really vague abt it bc you’re embarrassed by what it actually does.
the only way you can get the results you want from a mass democratic socialist party is by joining it and struggling for your political position within it. don’t like the margin by which AZR passed? join! be the change you want to see! call on your friends! it’s up to us!
Look y’all quit asking us to purge folks. The Anti-Zionist resolution was struggled against by the DSA right under the myth that we would immediately start kicking folks out! This is not fucking Twitter, or your 3 person book club, this is real life. There are tens of thousands of people in this organization. We on the Left busted our asses to get this shit done. Not to make twitter wags happy, but to defend revolutionary principles and serve the people better. You want a say? Join DSA.
the struggle between the DSA Left and the DSA Right is still a DSA matter and anybody from the outside who tries to cook up splits or encourage folks to leave en masse is not helpful. I personally have no tolerance for wreckers, they’re parasites. I went through the 2010s Maoist movement, all we did was try to wreck each other. That shit serves no purpose.
arguing over the protests is dumb. fucking go. what are you doing otherwise. you’re complaining about them being liberals - guess what? We were all liberals once. My first vote was for Obama in 2012. Help develop consciousness. Talk to people. Educate people. Some will tell you to go fuck yourself, that’s cool, go to the next one.
people don’t like this. I suspect their relationship to rage and grief makes them feel helpless and they don’t recognize that the state’s power takes advantage of that. that’s why so many ppl talk about imam Khalifah’s innocence and not his right to live.
The pagers of all doctors and nurses were targeted. With one exception, the AMERICAN University of Beirut hospital that asked staff to replace their pagers ten days ago.
