Today, India takes a defining step in its civil nuclear journey, advancing the second stage of its nuclear programme.
The indigenously designed and built Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam has attained criticality.
This advanced reactor, capable of producing more fuel than it consumes, reflects the depth of our scientific capability and the strength of our engineering enterprise. It is a decisive step towards harnessing our vast thorium reserves in the third stage of the programme.
A proud moment for India. Congratulations to our scientists and engineers.
Great news from IIT Kanpur
IIT Kanpur has admitted five students from the Olympiad route, bypassing the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) route, into its Computer Science and Engineering department.
What is great is that the institute has offered admissions to students who were a part of the training camp (and not necessarily the final Indian team). The students in training camps for the Mathematical Olympiad, the Chemistry Olympiad, the Physics Olympiad and the Informatics Olympiad go through a rigorous training which leaves no time to focus on anything else like the JEE.
Two students from the International Olympiad in Informatics Training Camp and three from the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp have been admitted to the prestigious CSE programme at IIT Kanpur.
I hope other major IITs also do this in the future. Top foreign universities like MIT and Cambridge offer direct admissions to Mathematical Olympiad participants, but so far top Indian universities did not do so. IIT Kanpur has taken a commendable initiative.
If a student has represented India at the International Mathematical Olympiad, he/she should be offered direct admission to a STEM course in any Indian university, including the Computer Science programme at IIT Bombay (the most sought after STEM course in India).

Big leap for India’s semiconductor story!
In a first, a telecom system running on ‘made in India’ chips has cleared the standards & quality tests (TEC certification). 🇮🇳
Mathematicians searched up to N = 10⁴⁰ for solutions to this equation and found only the original ones Ramanujan discovered: N = 3, 4, 5, 7, 15.
It’s recently been proven - there are no others.
Today is a landmark day for India’s efforts to encourage sporting talent and become a hub for sports! The Cabinet has approved Khelo Bharat Niti, a national policy for sports. This policy is anchored on 5 pillars:
Excellence on the Global Stage.

#WATCH | Delhi: On IIT Madras incubating over 100 deep-tech startups in the past year, IIT Madras Director, Veezhinathan Kamakoti, says, "We are now focused on transforming these startups into unicorns. On average, as an incubator, we hold about 2 to 3% equity in each of these companies. Our vision is to scale this effort to the point where, with over 100 startups launched annually, we could potentially witness one IPO every month. That’s the goal we’re striving for — to nurture these ventures so their technologies become world-class and commercially viable. We are working closely with them to ensure that innovation translates into impactful, market-ready solutions."
An exceptional achievement by Gukesh! Congratulations to him for triumphing over the very best. His first-ever win against Magnus Carlsen in Round 6 of Norway Chess 2025 showcases his brilliance and dedication. Wishing him continued success in the journey ahead.

I got this image forwarded - on India vs China startup ecosystems.
China does all the things India does (Fintech, edtech ..) but China also invests in deep tech. We have to deepen our tech.
That awareness is spreading so I am optimistic it will happen.
Warm wishes on Utkala Dibasa!
This day is a fitting tribute to Odisha’s glorious culture. India takes pride in Odisha’s history, literature and music. Odisha’s people are hardworking and have excelled in diverse fields. Over the last year, the Centre and Odisha Governments are working extensively to further the state’s progress.
Game-changer for Indian academia and for youth empowerment!
The Cabinet has approved ‘One Nation One Subscription’, which will strengthen our efforts to become a hub for research, learning and knowledge. It will also encourage interdisciplinary studies.

It’s a matter of immense joy and pride that India has come 4th in its best-ever performance in the International Maths Olympiad. Our contingent has brought home 4 Golds and one Silver Medal. This feat will inspire several other youngsters and help make mathematics even more popular.
It is important to reconnect to our past and cherish the people and institutions that nurtured us and helped shape who we are today. I got a special opportunity to do so and receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award at @iitmadras
My family and @iitmadras mentors got to speak. I got to talk about my journey from Mysore to @caltech As a young girl, I loved being surrounded by machines in my parent's factory and also the way they were automated and programmed. My dad inspired me to try for IIT entrance exam since he is also an alumnus of @iitmadras My hometown Mysore had no formal coaching classes, but this only increased my resolve to understand the full fundamentals of any topic and build my way up. That was pivotal in shaping me as a researcher. At @iitmadras I got to do my thesis on computer vision and signal processing. That early foundation was critical to leading me on the path of becoming an AI researcher.
I received a specially printed silk saree with @iitmadras logos: the fanciest campus swag ever created! Coincidentally, I had worn an ivory saree that matched the silk sash that I was honored with.
It is hard to believe that 20 years have gone by, but a large part of the campus remains the same with its greenery and wildlife like deer and monkeys.
