Yes, there is coordination of U.S. officials helping right wing candidates in Latin America, it has been happening for a few years. This also includes Latin American officials who have personally come to South Florida to influence elections.

There is growing fear and frustration, which is making some push for a more liberal alternative. The strong arm populist rhetoric doesn’t bring safety but more division.

What is concerning is that this dangerous trend is spreading across the entire region. Peligroso.

I’m seeing a lot of crazy attack ads here in Florida without disclosing who’s paying for those ads. Florida law requires any political ad, including digital, to disclose who pays for it, so…..just sayin’

Running for the U.S. Senate is grueling, but the race gives candidates, their families, and their parties a chance to show what they are made of, their strength, commitment and basic ethics. It shows voters exactly who these candidates are, how they will govern, and how they would handle holding tremendous power over the nation.

Because of this, public debates shouldn't be optional; they should be required so voters can see how these candidates conduct themselves and actually understand their choices.

The media scrutiny isn’t pretty, but it is a necessary part of a working democracy. When a candidate repeatedly shows us a history of poor choices, unethical behavior, discriminatory and hateful rhetoric we have every reason to believe they will act the same way in office.

As we watch primaries across the country, ask yourself what the line is for acceptable behavior, and enforce it equally for both parties.

For years, I’ve studied what actually protects freedom and democracy. At its core? Freedom of the press.

The executive’s pattern of censorship and targeting journalists is dangerous. Every American, regardless of party, needs to wake up and speak out against this erosion.
