🆕 As Trump & Xi meet — dozens of US groups urge Congress to "prioritize peace, cooperation, and stability' and "actively help reduce U.S.-China tensions"
"At a time when so many domestic needs are going unmet, a confrontational posture toward China is costing untold billions"
🚨BREAKING: For the first time, Congress just voted to circumvent Trump & unilaterally end the Iran War - and in the process, create conditions for an historic legal battle over war powers, if Senate Dems now force a vote.
What just happened in the House is a VERY big deal.
Amazing! The House just passed a War Powers Act resolution to end the Iran war! It must now go to the Senate, but it won't need a signature from Trump.
This is the furthest any WPR has gone against the Iran war!
A major defeat for those who wish to continue the war, although it doesn't automatically force Trump's hand.
Several Republicans broke with Trump to get this passed:
Massie,
Fitpatrick,
Davidson, and
Barrett.
Several organizations deserve massive credit for this key win:

Atty. Tlaib explains the law to Mast:
"Sec. 5(c) of the War Powers Act... says if it's 'engaged in hostilities'"
"If US armed forces are there and they're not participating in this ethnic cleansing campaign [or] they're training the Lebanese Armed Forces — then they're fine"

Good news for @RepSchneider:
The War Powers Act and H.Con.Res. 84 can ONLY remove US troops from "hostilities"
This means @RashidaTlaib's War Powers Resolution CANNOT remove troops who are "protecting embassies and supporting the LAF" — as nobody asserts those are hostilities

New Democrat Coalition Chair Brad Schneider on Lebanon war powers: “I don’t think it’s coming to the floor.”
Says U.S. troops in Lebanon are providing critical services including protecting embassies and supporting the LAF and “I’m not going to vote to take away those things.”
BREAKING: The House just passed a War Powers Resolution to end Trump's illegal war.
Both houses of Congress have now passed bipartisan resolutions demanding the war end.
The Constitution gives Congress, not the president, power to declare war.
Trump must end this war now.
Barrett on voting for war powers resolution on Iran
“Well, obviously, I felt that this was something that was an important measure for Congress. Congress has the exclusive authority in the Constitution to declare war”
HAPPENING NOW: @RepMaxMiller had no argument against the Lebanon WPR so he called Rep @RashidaTlaib a Hezbollah supporter instead.
This resolution would end unauthorized U.S. involvement in Israel's invasion of Lebanon — a country where 3,000+ civilians have been killed and 1.2 million displaced.
The House of Representatives has agreed to a measure directing President Trump to terminate U.S. hostilities against Iran in a 215-208 vote, a major win for all working to bring this war to a close. NIAC President @jabdi’s statement follows:
"President Trump has now received two clear and unmistakable signals from a majority of the Republican-controlled House and Republican-controlled Senate: end this war before more harm is done to American security and the American economy.
Unfortunately, the ceasefire has turned into a “more-moderately-fire” as failure to rein in Benjamin Netanyahu in Lebanon and move decisively toward a deal, allowing tensions to spike repeatedly. One of the world’s vital transit corridors is still blockaded twice over and significant gaps remain over the terms of a more stable peace. Continuing on the same track risks reigniting this war in full, to disastrous consequences.
At the same time, the political window for this war is narrowing quickly as lawmakers continue to hear from Americans that have opposed this war of choice from the start and are angry that their elected representatives once again prioritized military entanglements abroad that spike the price of gas and groceries, making their lives harder and less affordable.
House Democrats deserve credit for uniting around the resolution from Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY), as does Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) for supporting every single Iran war powers resolution and the three House Republicans - Warren Davidson (R-OH), Tom Barrett (R-MI) and Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) who flipped their votes from no to yes as the war dragged on.
The Senate faces another consequential vote in the days to come that could either result in a third consecutive bipartisan advancement of an Iran war powers resolution, or a tie that Vice President JC Vance could be forced to break. President Trump needs to stop dithering and bring this disastrous war to a close before more harm is done. Otherwise, more harm to the nation and more political blowback will follow."
The House has FINALLY passed an Iran War Powers Resolution, more than three months into this criminal disaster. Trump needs to see the writing on the wall and realize that it's time to stop kicking the diplomacy can down the road, and Dems should give him space for a deal.
It seems Democrat @RepSchneider wants to continue US support for Israel’s destruction of Lebanon with a false narrative about @RepRashida’s resolution undermining US troops who protect the US embassy help the Lebanese Army.
Rashida Tlaib’s resolution DOES NOT undermine embassy security or the paltry amount of support the Lebanese Army receives from the U.S.
It calls for ending U.S. participation in hostilities and halting military assistance and intelligence sharing for an Israeli war that Israeli officials themselves have openly framed as a campaign to turn Lebanon into Gaza.
Conflating support for embassy personnel with support for Israel’s war on Lebanon is a total cop-out. We see through it.

"More than 3,000 innocent people have been killed in Lebanon by the Israeli military and over a million are displaced. These are not abstract statistics. These are real lives." @RepPressley
The House is expected to vote TOMORROW on @RepRashida’s resolution to end US complicity in Israel’s invasion and devastation of Lebanon.
Israeli government leaders could not be more clear: This is a campaign of ethnic cleansing.
Our government should not be supporting this. Tell your representative to vote the right way: https://t.co/ifzEOOELuX
Over 3,000 innocent people have been killed in Lebanon by the Israeli military & over a million displaced.
We are talking about children, elders, & loved ones.
I urge my colleagues to support @RepRashida's War Powers Resolution on the floor this week & act to end this war now.
Tbd on where the vote count lands later in the week but the Lebanon war powers vote will be somewhat bipartisan - Rep. Tlaib tells me that Rep. Massie has signed on and “there’s huge momentum”
