The negotiations were tough, everyone fought for the best result for their member state, lots of compromises were reached and EuCo agreed on a joint statement.
However, the Comission's proposal was rejected. What an end!

Estonian ambassador to the EU, Marten Kokk:
‘COMPET is in a standstill. Germany is voting against a lot of proposals, whereas other member states are abstaining. We need to be more constructive and work together with the Parliament.’

BREAKING NEW: Compensation agreed on. Will be given on a case to case basis. A dispositive regarding possible compensation has been added to the regulation on the initiative of Croatia, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia and Luxembourg!!

The EUCO is now considering the statement by Spain and Slovakia.
Ursula Von der Leyen, the Commission President wants the statement to be less harsh and more nuanced. Germany agrees.

Janez Janša of Slovenia is pushing for a swift and strong stance against China's human rights violations.
Sanna Marin of Finland votes against the statement, saying that it does not change anything and there should be a stronger statement.

American businesses will appreciate the support from Estonia by Ambassador Marten Kokk during the COMPET negotiations.
The threshold was increased, to lower it would go against the work to improve from the white paper.

Leaked: Estonia, Hungary, Croatia, Luxembourg, Finland, Latvia and Ireland have reached an agreement on compensation which they will present to COMPET in the last day of negotiations over regulation on foreign subsidies. (DAY 3)

Day 3: News is that the COMPET and Council are meeting an hour early today for further negotiations. It seems like there is a lot to discuss still.

Estonian govt official:
"After today’s consensus on article 13 in COMPET, we are one step closer to a regulation. However, tomorrow’s talks over the compensation will be decisive. The eastern member states expect generous compensation from Germany and France."
