The authorities already knew a lot about the terrorist who killed and maimed Pride participants in Germany yesterday.

They knew that:
-he travelled to Lebanon to join the Islamic State in 2025.
-he was arrested and returned to Germany.
-he was held in pre-trial detention until May 2026.
-he was ordered to undergo a de-radicalisation programme.
-he was convicted in May 2026 of preparing a ‘serious act of subversive violence’, but given a suspended sentence rather than jail.
-he was known to police as a member of Islamist circles in Berlin.
-police received a recent tip-off that he had posted a photograph of himself posing with a weapon & searched his apartment.

Despite all this, he remained at liberty to attack innocent people.
Has there ever been a time in history when governments were so unwilling to protect their citizens?

Andy Burnham will unveil plans next week for adult social care in the first major policy speech of his premiership as he pledges to “face it and fix it”

The prime minister has pledged to overhaul social care so that it “operates on the NHS principle” and is free at the point of need in a move that is projected to cost £18.5 billion a year

However, The Times has been told that this “universal” offer is unlikely to cover the “daily living costs” of a care home, such as laundry, food, accommodation and energy bills

It means home residents could still face bills of tens of thousands of pounds for accommodation costs under proposals for a new National Care Service

Covering these costs for everybody would add about an extra £16 billion to annual costs, according to estimates based on average care home fees

Dame Louise Casey, who is leading a commission looking at adult social care in England, is poised to launch a national conversation this month on how it should be paid for

Burnham is expected to give a speech setting out his vision in London next week

Towards the end of Starmer's premiership, the idea that it was all down to "bad comms" became increasingly ludicrous.
