Here are the people who want Marcellus Williams to receive clemency:
— The victim’s family
— The prosecutors
— Members of the jury
If @GovParsonMO allows this execution to take place he will have blood on his hands.
“As dark as today is, we owe it to Khaliifah to build a brighter future. We are thankful to the St. Louis Prosecuting Attorney, for his commitment to truth and justice and all he did to try to prevent this unspeakable wrong. And for the millions of people who signed petitions, made calls, and shared Khaliifah’s story.”
“Tonight, we all bear witness to Missouri’s grotesque exercise of state power. Let it not be in vain. This should never happen, and we must not let it continue,” said Tricia Rojo Bushnell, #MarcellusWilliams' lawyer.
What does it say about our legal system when the U.S. Supreme Court refuses to stop an execution even when the county prosecuting agency that handled the original trial files a brief in support of a stay and supports vacating the entire conviction? #MarcellusWilliams
We are his witnesses. Not only to his end, but to his life. Read his poems. Share his story. Know his heart. He existed. He was here. We won’t stop fighting until no more innocent lives are ended by the state for nothing but the abhorrent, cowardly refusal to seek justice.
The execution of Marcellus Williams is a horrible injustice. This didn’t have to happen. Just a couple weeks ago, prosecutors—with the support of the victim’s family—had reached a plea agreement with Marcellus that took death off the table.
We are the leading Democratic campaign with ~$2 million in the bank and building the campaign that can win in November. Thank you to everyone who chipped in for our filing deadline. This is how we will launch Ohio's comeback.
