The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad was the oldest railroad in the United States, with its first section opening in 1830. I have cleaned-up this wonderful autochrome plate, which was taken less than a century later, near Baltimore, Maryland, at the railroad's commemoration in 1927. It is original colour, not colourised.

I've cleaned up this gorgeous Victorian photograph of Dickensian London, overshadowed by the sheer magnitude & dominance of St Paul's Cathedral. It was photographed by John Leighton 166 years ago, back in 1859.
I think the mooring poles in the foreground almost lend a Venetian air to the image, and the definition is so high, one can almost zoom right into those warehouse windows!
