The podcast I did with @itsjasonflom and dubin.josh of @innocence really opened my eyes to how insanely fucked the criminal justice system is in many parts of this country. I could post fucked up cases like this… https://t.co/oJMmCBeMcp
This week, @drleanawen, @chesaboudin, and @rachelrmarshall discuss the war on drugs, criminalization of addiction, and ways we can effectively treat addiction as the public health crisis it is.
THIS IS WHO WE FIGHT FOR: George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, Pamela Turner, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, Tamir Rice, Terence Crutcher, Alton Sterling, Sandra Bland, Philando Castile, Emmett Till, MLK, and so many others... We must never forget them.
We just announced the first ever comprehensive police accountability and reform bill to:
- Create a national standard for use of force
- Expand pattern and practice investigations into police departments
- Increase independent investigations into police misconduct
@SenKamalaHarris #ExtraJudicial killings are the common thread in why people are outraged. #DueProcess is a basic human right that everyone regardless of race or background is entitled to. We’re outraged that such a shameful disregard of basic human rights stains U.S. history & continues today.
@BroderickHunter Actually I think ending racism can’t be a debate, because a racist is not a rational thinker who you can reason with. A civil war was already fought and racists already lost. Racists are no more reasonable in 2020. I would say they are even less capable of reasoning.
Minneapolis City Council voted today to disband @MinneapolisPD and replace it w/ a community-led system that prioritizes community safety/health! That’s REAL accountability for a BROKEN Dept w/ illegal procedures and failure to discipline corrupt officers! #JusticeForGeorgeFloyd
Minneapolis’ 3rd Precinct a ‘playground’ for rogue officers: millions in misconduct settlements, a public defender who says ‘my clients were constantly getting anal searches. Not at the hospital. At the 3rd Precinct.’ https://t.co/epoyX3t1B6
1 Republican senator stood in the way of passing my bill to make lynching a federal crime. There was no reason for this other than cruel and deliberate obstruction, during the very hour of George Floyd’s memorial.
