@koboateng@blacklabrys this is very disingenuous. LGBTQ+ activists, human rights defenders & feminists have been opposing the bill & raising awareness over the past 5 yrs ago. multiple articles have been written, the bill has been translated in local languages & problematic sections highlighted.
As the Parliament of Ghana hosts the 4th African Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family Values and Sovereignty in Accra from June 3–6, 2026, it is important to be clear that there is very little that is genuinely African about this initiative.

Calling queerness “un-African” falls apart when Ghanaian languages already carry terms like kojo besia and supi. You can debate policy, but don’t erase culture and history to do it. #BackToSender#GhanaCheckYourAura

Chale, every time this conversation comes up, I keep wondering about the ordinary Ghanaian. The nurse, the teacher, the student, the neighbour. How does all this affect them? #GhanaCheckYourAura
1. Asking people to hand over ID or biometric data to access adult content was always going to be contested. In the UK, civil liberties groups warned it normalizes surveillance in the name of child safety. #BackToSender#GhanaCheckYourAura
Real question: when will Parliament be as urgent about floods and broken ambulances as they are about criminalizing LGBTQ people? #GhanaCheckyourAura#BackToSender

Personally I still blame it all on authorities. If you don’t enforce, people will continue to misbehave. Rwandans don’t litter because they know they will pay dearly for it. They’re not born special. Citizens shouldn’t have to burdened with policing each other when we have police
Buildings are collapsing , fire outbreaks, floods everywhere meanwhile on today’s agenda in parliament will be “what’s the best punishment for the effeminate child”
“What should we do to people who don’t report others having sex?”
Five years later, the city still floods after normal rainfall. Ghanaians are still watching their incompetent and inept law makers scapegoat and punch down on lgbtq Ghanaians, while failing to improve the quality of their lives.
The same Parliament that fast-tracked the anti-LGBTQ bill suspended sittings while Accra drowns. Fast for persecution. Silent for floods. #GhanaCheckYourAura#BackToSender
This is what the draft African charter wants to prevent. They’re going after sex education program like these and we must resist Sharon Slater and her minions leading the charge through their faux sovereignty call.
