A tamil guy in his mid 20s first asked me to exchange his window seat with my aisle seat.
Few mins later, watching reels with full volume, I requested him to reduce the volume.
An hr later he was on call talking loudly. South is no different
Age of Empires 1: The Rise of Rome: Macedonia
In 1998 my job was to do the Rise of Rome expansion for Age of Empire. My idea was that it would feature Rome, and three enemies of Rome - one from its early days, one from when it was flexing its muscles (Carthage), and one from later (Palmyra).
The early-era enemy I puzzled over for a bit. Should it be the Gauls? They actually attacked Rome back in the day. How about the Etruscans? I finally decided that the main empire which was trying to destroy Rome before it came into power was Epirus, famously one of the follow-on empires from Alexander the Great's conquests. I guess I could have called them "Epirans" but no one knows that name, and besides they themselves didn't call them that. So I went with Macedonian. More about that later.
Famously, the big clash of the time was between Macedonian phalanxes & the Roman troops. I wanted to double-down on this. I also wanted to make the Macedonians distinctive & interesting.
The first step I took was to remove their ability to build a Temple. This means they can't train priests, and can't convert enemies. I did this partly because who in their right mind was converting to Apollo in 300 BC? But also because I had another part to this plan - namely, that the Macedonians would be 4x harder to convert BY priests. This is basically because everyone back in the day used priests to stop hoplites, and I wanted the Romans to use other tactics.
