Today, with Uganda’s Minister for Trade, Industry and Cooperatives, Hon. Gen. Wilson Mbadi, we issued a joint communiqué on resolved trade barriers between Kenya and Uganda.
Kenya and Uganda reached a joint agreement to remove the trade barriers and ease the movement of goods and people across their borders, in line with the East African Community (EAC) Treaties and Protocols.
In the meeting held in Mbale, Uganda, we also agreed on urgent measures to decongest trucks at key border points.
This follows the directive of H.E. President William Ruto and H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who tasked Ministers from both countries to swiftly address bottlenecks affecting cross-border trade.
With this progress, Kenya and Uganda are strengthening bilateral ties, boosting regional trade, and opening new opportunities for our people and the wider East African Community.

A technical team from the State Department is currently in Uganda on a fact-finding mission to key border posts that serve as critical gateways for trade along the Northern Corridor. The mission covers Busia, Malaba, Lwakhakha, and Suam which are vital arteries for cross-border trade between Kenya and Uganda.
The primary objective of the mission is to address persistent challenges of roadblocks, congestion and delays that truck drivers and traders face at the border to ensure smoother movement of goods and services.
Conducted jointly with Ugandan counterparts, the exercise also provides a platform for bilateral engagement aimed at harmonizing customs and trade procedures, improving infrastructure coordination and strengthening cooperation between the two countries. By streamlining border processes the initiative is expected to boost cross-border trade and enhance the region’s competitiveness.
The Kenyan delegation is led by Ag. Director of External Trade Joseah Rotich and includes representatives from key ministries, departments, and agencies including @IndustryKE @kilimoKE @Livestock_Dev@ForeignOfficeKE@KenyaDairyBoard and the @KEBS_ke

You Are the Last Line of Defence in Reshaping the Continent’s Future, asserts Kenyatta at the Guild Leaders’ Summit 2025.
KAMPALA, 24th April 2025: His Excellency President (Rtd) Uhuru Kenyatta has urged young Africans to seize the moment as architects of a self-reliant and united continent. In his keynote address at the second annual Guild Leaders’ Summit 2025, held at Makerere University in Kampala, Uganda, Kenyatta framed Africa’s challenges as a clarion call for youth-led transformation declaring, “ You are the last line of defence in the battle to rescue the heart and soul of Africa.”
Reflecting on the current global landscape, the former Head of State noted the shifting dynamics in which developed nations are increasingly inward-focused, leaving Africa to chart its own path. He urged the youth to recognize this as an “independence moment,” where they must step up as the last line of defence in the battle to rescue the heart and soul of Africa for the sake of future generations.
With unwavering conviction, he reminded the ecstatic audience, mostly composed of young leaders, “No one is coming to save us, and as the world turns increasingly inward, the places to seek refuge are rapidly disappearing,” urging the youth to embrace their role as the freedom fighters of this era.
@GPLAcademy #GuildLeadersSummit2025
Former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta paid me a courtesy call at State House, Entebbe this evening. He was here for the Guild Leaders’ Summit at Makerere University. I was pleased to hear that these students are keen on what the NRM has been preaching: the four principles of Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Socio-economic Transformation, and Democracy, and how they are crucial for their prosperity.
I welcome this initiative and will meet with the Guild Leadership Academy to discuss it further.
I had the distinct honour of presiding over an exhilarating rugby match between our very own Kenya Simba and the Uganda Rugby team. The match, held in Kampala, was a testament to the unwavering determination and sportsmanship that define the spirit of East African unity.
The Simba displayed remarkable skill, teamwork, and resilience, securing an impressive victory with a score of 21-5 against a valiant Ugandan side. This win not only underscores the talent and hard work of our players but also highlights the growing stature of rugby in the region.
As the Deputy Head of Mission to Uganda, I take immense pride in witnessing the strengthening of ties between Kenya and Uganda through sports. Beyond the competition, such events serve as a powerful reminder of our shared heritage and mutual aspirations.
Congratulations to Kenya Simba for their outstanding performance and to both teams for fostering camaraderie and sportsmanship. Together, we continue to champion the spirit of unity in diversity across our borders.
