My empathy for the Reiner family and those who truly knew and loved him feels small compared to the impact his work had on millions.

And the way his life ended is especially hard to comprehend.

But then I think about how deeply his work was woven into my life — the movies, the laughter, the moments attached to them.

That kind of presence doesn’t disappear just because the connection was indirect.
