Following my last post on #NewZealand travel, a few questions came up about how the trip was managed at this cost. A lot of you wondered if that meant cutting corners on the experience.

NO. In fact, nowhere in my entire itinerary was I actively looking to cut costs. It's a once-in-a-lifetime destination, and I wanted to do all I could within my time limits. I did all the activities I planned to do, covered as many places as I could, and even if someone planned a trip on a much higher budget, I would still recommend most of the places I stayed.

I just tried to plan it smart as a solo traveller to get the max bang for the buck. So, here's the breakdown of costs. 👇

My 16-Night Solo Adventure in New Zealand under ₹1.2 Lakh

Most people think #NewZealand is a very expensive place, impossible to travel solo, or that you absolutely need a car to see the good stuff.
Well, let me tell you: not only is it possible, but it's an absolutely incredible country to explore solo, on a budget, and mostly using public transport. I completed a 16-night solo trip across both islands of New Zealand with out-of-pocket expenses of under ₹1.2 lakh. This included my flights from and back to #India, stays, internal transportation, and a packed schedule of activities: #skydiving (yes, you read that right), rafting, popular tours like #MilfordSound and #Hobbiton, #glowworm caves, hot water spas, geothermal parks, and more.

And no, that’s not a clickbait number I’ve just thrown out to get your attention — I can share a detailed cost breakdown in a future post. Yes, I did use credit card points for my flights and a few hotel bookings which resulted in huge savings, but even if I include the value of those points, my total trip cost was ~₹2 lakhs for 16 incredible nights.

This summer, I finally got to check off a major bucket-list item: Machu Picchu 🇵🇪

What surprised me most wasn’t the site itself, but how much planning goes into visiting it.

We started planning about 7 months before travel.

The key bookings were:
• Machu Picchu entry tickets
• Train tickets
• Hotel in Aguas Calientes
• Guide
• Bus tickets to the site

The most important one? Machu Picchu entry tickets.

Tickets open around 6 months in advance and can sell out quickly. There are multiple circuits, each offering different viewpoints and experiences, so it’s worth deciding your route before tickets are released.

As soon as we secured our entry tickets, we booked the train.
If you’re not hiking, there are two main operators: PeruRail and Inca Rail. We chose the PeruRail Vistadome, which was beautiful and felt like part of the experience itself. These tickets can sell out quickly too.

Everything else was fairly straightforward.

We booked our guide through GetYourGuide, bought the bus tickets in Aguas Calientes the evening before, and stayed overnight in town. Most hotels offer luggage storage since many visitors leave right after visiting Machu Picchu.

A lot of planning for a single attraction?

Absolutely.

Worth it?

Without a doubt. Machu Picchu is one of those places that genuinely lives up to the hype. ⛰️

Finnair (AY) allows transfer of Avios to other AY members for a small fee.

Just €10 to transfer. 🔥

➡️ Why it matters?

- Qatar has restrictions to book for others (unless you have a paid QR flight in past or have the IndusInd QR card)

So we can just transfer between AY members and transfer back to QR via BA 😉

- AY is the transfer partner of HDFC at 1:1

- We don't violate terms and can transfer to others

This is good if one has cards with family members

Of course the other restrictions apply (like account should be 30 days old to transfer between Avios partners)

Govt of Maharastra Says - Major Relief for Transfer of Family Property!

The Revenue Department of the Government has issued an important notification under the Registration Act, 1908. Under this, if residential or agricultural property is transferred to husband, wife, son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, or the wife of a deceased son through a gift deed, only ₹200 will be charged as registration fee for that document.

This decision will make the transfer of family property more convenient, cost-effective, and citizen-friendly. Additionally, the expenses incurred in this process will be saved, providing major relief to the common people.
