Comrades, During the Revolt of 1857, India had no means of modern communication. There was no Instagram, Facebook, Meta, WhatsApp, X, Signal, mobile phones, landlines, telegraphs—nothing of the sort. Yet, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Bengal to Maharashtra, revolutionaries passed messages using nothing more than chapatis and flatbreads. That is how information spread, and that is how the movement grew. So, if the BJP, Narendra Modi, and Amit Shah believe that by shutting down one platform after another, whitewashing graffiti on walls, erasing slogans, taking down videos, and censoring communication they can stop people from sharing ideas with one another, then they have not understood the history of 1857. The truth is that their own political history, beginning in 1925, is rooted not in resisting British rule but in serving it. Had they studied history more carefully, they would understand that the people of India have never depended on any particular medium to communicate. They have carried messages on chapatis and still ignited revolutions. Those who know this history have no reason to worry. Even if Amit Shah were to shut down every means of communication, the spark that now exists in people’s hearts against the BJP and the RSS will continue to spread from one person to another. It can no longer be contained. And once that spark spreads, the political dominance—and, the very presence—of the BJP and the RSS will inevitably come to an end.
