So much Gyan flowing on #KSA_Pak Defence Pact
Here are my top 5 broad points---
1. First of all, wait for the confirmation on #UAE and #Qatar joining it. There is none yet.
2. That said, this entire situation is not understood or analyzed well. How?
(i) #Signal vs #Substance --
The extreme situation of coming to each other's mutual defence and Pakistan triggering a nuclear response.. is meant to divert attention from all the other crosscutting defence value chains that Pakistanis will be getting more access to-- both directly ( funds from KSA etc) and indirectly.
(ii) How many of you know that it was #Pakistani interlocutors that had arranged the deal between #China and #UAE & #KSA on Chinese drones to battle test them against #Houthis in #Yemen ?
( iii) The example of China Pakistan co-produced J fighters sold to #Azerbaijan with #Turkish missiles is an example I have given several times already.
We all know the PL-15 collab during Op.Sindoor
Likewise- examples of Pak having access to #Rafales and #Spectra via joint exercises with #Qatar and Pak pilots flying the Qatari military jets -- those too i have repeated several times.
There are more examples. Wait for longer pieces on it.
( iv) Therefore, #Pakistan has successfully entrenched itself as a "revolving door" between #China, #Caucasus and the #MiddleEast. Dont forget the recent normalisation between #Armenia and #Pakistan in #China.
That "revolving door" status is the real deal.
On the contrary, scenario building on Art 5-like collective security , currently underway in India, has a weak strategic premise-- it is simply the exterior and the signal, not the substance.
3. Implications for #India ? Many.
(i) Obviously GCC wont start bombing India if India- pak go to another military stand off tomorrow.
But it raises costs for India and isolates it in a region where it has had excellent partners. Remember #Iran is already weakened and #Trump has removed our special waivers for #Chabahar just today.
(ii) Future of #IMEC and #I2U2 can be anybody's guess.
(iii) Defence collab with #Israel would deepen - YES.
But it has its own limitations.
Many Israel enthusiasts dont discuss the larger picture.
What we mainly get from Israel are following --
--- #Harop and #Harpy drones ( Israel sells these to Baku as well),
---Rifles ( and some bombs)
----Missiles. So far Israel has not agreed to co -produce Barak 8 missiles ( that Israel produces with DRDO for india) for the Barak MX system it sells to Cyprus.-- just an example of a low hanging fruit that has not seen convergence on yet.
4. The defence pact with the largest GCC state is an unusual diplomatic win for #Pakistan in the aftermath of Op. #Sindoor, further entrenching itself in the middle east defence eco-system.
5. What we need is a professional, critical and clear eyed analysis of the same, not merely posturing and statements.

This week i write on PM #Modi’s trip to #Japan and why it’s important we utilise the full potential of this natural partnership that remains underutilised.
I give #three#broad pathways to take it forward but before that, India must also engage with the #transformation of #Japan as a #security #actor after new #security and #defence strategy as the Euro Atlantic and #Indo #Pacific theatres merge.
