In the race to sensationalise an extraordinarily sensitive case, India Today has crossed a disturbing line by broadcasting footage connected to the POCSO investigation.

It is deeply disheartening that even women journalists can forget that behind every "breaking exclusive" is a child,a survivor.

Broadcasting such footage can retraumatise not just her, but countless women and girls who have lived through child sexual abuse and sexual violence.

And then journalist Omjasvin says that the video was leaked to the media by a politician. That only makes the entire episode even more disturbing.

If the real intention in a POCSO case is to secure justice for the survivor, the investigation must never be allowed to descend into a media trial. Evidence should strengthen the prosecution not feed headlines of the lap dog medias.

The fact that a POCSO investigation is even being discussed as an 'X factor' for an upcoming by-election shows how far the conversation has drifted from justice for the survivor.

With the video now having entered the public domain, serious questions need to be asked,

How did evidence from an active child sexual abuse investigation reach a politician?

How did it then reach the media?

Who authorised this?

And whose interests does such circulation serve?

Which politician released the video?

The TVK government owes the public an explanation about how evidence in this case is being handled under its watch.

A POCSO case should not be treated as a media spectacle and the survivors as election ammunition.

A child's trauma and a survivor's suffering is lifelong. Do not add on to the sufferings.

When allegations involve the sexual abuse of children, every delay, every lapse and every failure to act matters. There can be no room for indifference when a child’s safety and justice are at stake.

The latest action by #CMJosephVijay‌ sends a powerful message:

🔴 IPS officers A. Arun & N. Kannan have reportedly been moved to Compulsory Wait over alleged negligence in handling the case.

🔴 ACP Yasmin, Koyambedu Sub-Division, has also been placed on Vacancy Reserve (VR) by DGP Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal. She had submitted the closure report in the case on February 9, 2026.

This is not about revenge. This is about responsibility.

If a child’s suffering was brought to the attention of authorities, the system must answer one fundamental question:

👉 Was everything possible done to protect the child and pursue the truth?

Every officer entrusted with protecting society must remember: a file can be closed, but a child’s trauma cannot be erased.

Let the investigation proceed without fear or favour.
Let accountability follow wherever the evidence leads.
And above all, let the children’s dignity, identity and justice remain the priority. 🙏

CEC Gyanesh Kumar Must Go: He Has No Right to Continue in Office!

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, along with other Opposition parties, has consistently opposed the move to delete crores of voters from the electoral rolls in the name of the Special Intensive Revision (#SIR). Rushed through just months ahead of elections in State after State, the exercise was riddled with irregularities and sparked widespread unrest, particularly in West Bengal.

The explosive findings published by The @IndianExpress today, backed by evidence, have now cast serious doubts over the results of every Assembly election held after the SIR exercise. The investigation reveals that Chief Election Commissioner Thiru. #GyaneshKumar had been acting unilaterally and in secrecy, without the concurrence of the other two Election Commissioners. Even more alarming is the revelation that Thiru. Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Thiru. Vivek Joshi were kept in the dark about crucial decisions being taken within the very institution they jointly oversee. Their objections to decisions being taken without their knowledge were brushed aside on as many as 14 occasions in just ten months. These revelations have severely eroded the credibility of the Election Commission.

The Election Commission is a three-member body whose business must, as far as possible, be transacted unanimously. Where the Commissioners differ in opinion on any matter, the decision must be based on the majority view. If two of its three members were themselves kept unaware of what was being done in the Commission’s name, this cannot be dismissed as a mere internal or procedural matter. It constitutes a grave assault on Indian democracy. The credibility of an apex institution that is expected to function independently, transparently and without political interference has been seriously compromised.

The revelations concerning the electoral rolls are equally disturbing. Appeals were filed against the inclusion of voters even after courts had ordered that their names be added to the electoral rolls. Who authorised these appeals? Who filed them? The two Election Commissioners themselves say they were kept in the dark.

The law empowers Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) to scrutinise and revise electoral rolls. Yet, they were unable to add even those who had been duly found eligible to vote. ERONet, the digital platform through which these changes had to be made, was entirely under the control of one person. When such concerns are being raised by two serving Election Commissioners, the extent of political interference that may have taken place within the Election Commission is plain to see.

As early as March this year, the DMK, along with other Opposition parties, moved an impeachment motion against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He has no right to continue in office any longer. Thiru. #GyaneshKumarMustGo immediately. The SIR exercise must be halted. The DMK demands a fair and thorough investigation into everything that has transpired within the Election Commission and that those responsible be held accountable.

The agenda is very clear.
Spin the crime for political gains. No concern about the victims or their plight.

This is a dastardly crime. Whoever is involved should be brought to justice.

The problem is this, when they leak information without action from the police, it points out to only one thing. They fear there is no evidence to back up these leaked claims.

If the grave allegations are indeed true, the police would have arrested the persons complicit in the crime and then released the details.
Not the other way round.
