Never thought I would quote a song from something as clichéd as the musical “The Sound of Music,” but it’s what came into my head when I saw this video about the extraordinary story of Kaamya Karthikeyan.
“Climb every mountain
Search high and low
Follow every highway
Every path you know
Climb every mountain
Ford every stream
Follow every rainbow
'Till you find your dream”
Kaamya, congratulations on your world-beating achievements. You make us proud.
But I also have to express my admiration for your parents. Because, as you so eloquently expressed, they were the ones who did not dismiss what most parents would see as a child’s impractical whim.
What we can learn from them is that the way to make a child achieve great things is not through relentless pressure, but through quietly encouraging & faciltating children’s OWN desires and ambitions ‘until they find their dream.’
