@hnasr Raising these points during code reviews or worse reviews of design doc that are obvious one shotted AI output , is not encouraged. Management wants the developers to be “AI native”, whatever that means. And this is seen as being resistant to adoption and ineffective AI usage

Deeply shocking to read this official US statement, which contains absolutely no expression of regret or condolence for the loss of innocent Indian lives. How can a “friend” and strategic partner be so deeply insensitive?

Why couldn’t a non-compliant commercial vessel have been stopped using other, non-lethal means? Is it not possible to disable a ship's propulsion or steering without firing missiles targeted to kill civilian crew members?

Practically every merchant ship navigating these crucial waters has Indian crew on board. Are they all considered fair game for US missiles now?

This approach is unacceptable and I hope @DrSJaishankar had said so to @marcorubio.

The war Israel and the US launched in India's neighbourhood poses the single largest threat to India's continued rise as a major economic power.

The US torpedoed an Iranian vessel, which was in the region to participate in drills in India, in the Indian Ocean, bringing the war closer to India's shores.

Now the US has bombed a vessel in the Gulf of Oman, carrying 24 Indians, in which three Indian lives were lost.

--Have said this earlier. India MUST articulate a stronger position defending its critical interests, and against the perpetrators of this war which is endangering India's rise. We are not a passive fence-sitter here. We are getting hit, in one way or the other, every day.

The industry has gone completely nuts.

Use tokens to generate AI code and documentation slop. Then use even more tokens to understand and review that slop.

Then judge engineers by token usage instead of how empathetic and clear their docs and code actually are, and completely neglect human comprehension.

First, the cloud gave us abstractions that made it easier to forget failure. Infrastructure became someone else's problem, and many systems were designed around happy paths with reliability added later ... managed services remain up ...

Now, it is an AI speed-at-all-costs culture that is forcing us to ship code that just works 80% of the time, because it is okay if things fail 20% of the time, but we need to ship faster.

Software was supposed to be predictable. Somewhere along the way, we started treating reliability as a tradeoff, and it is now becoming the norm. I do hope we come back to building software that people can depend on and something we are proud of.

I feel a bit responsible for hyping agentic coding in December as I was having and still having too much fun doing best technical work.

However I heard some gossip about certain big tech hiring fewer junior eng. so I wanted to make a point.

If you want your engineering output to actually compound, hire ambitious junior engineers, give them exceptional tools, and pair them tightly with senior engineers who are great communicators and genuinely care about teaching. Juniors move fast and explore multiple approaches, while seniors spend their time framing the hard problems and raising the bar for everyone around them. This will avoid endless debates and death by committees.

Cloning any random piece of SaaS is something that could already be done before agentic coding, and the economics of it haven't changed meaningfully. Before, writing the clone would cost 0.5-1% of the valuation of the legacy SaaS company. Now it might be 0.1%. It doesn't make a difference -- if you can pull it off profitably today you could also have done it profitably in the past.

The code is a very small part of the process of making such a clone successful, and the reason legacy software has often bad UX is not because code was expensive to write.
