I don't expect myself to share sensitive personal documents to buy into presales, trade tokens, or use services. But over the years, that already changed. Protocols launch platforms requiring identity verification, palm verification, orb, and many more. Recently, KAITO launched its Capital Launchpad. They want users to complete full KYC before participating. I was skeptical. I still am. ---- On July 25, @TheoriqAI opened its community token sale for THQ via Kaito’s Capital Launchpad. To participate, you are required to complete identity screening, including photo ID and proof of address, enable 2FA, fund the embedded wallet with USDC on Base, and link an email account. If you don't, you won't enter the pledging phase, and thus, no allocation reservation. Behind this experience, I asked a question: Must we submit and store our personal documents just to access DeFi opportunities? The answer? Use zk-KYC. ---- Zero-knowledge KYC middleware allows you to interact with a privacy-preserving protocol that issues a cryptographic credential without exposing the raw data. This credential proves eligibility for participation without revealing identity. That means once you verify yourself just once, you can reuse the credential across all zk-KYC-enabled apps. Complete your verification once, and the cryptographic proof lives in your wallet. It launched in January, and @SingularDAO adopted it in Q1 on Arbitrum. @Mantle_Official partnered with zkME back in 2023. • @zkPass raised $12.5M to build a zk‑TLS oracle that proves data fetched from Web2 sites without revealing it. Meaning you can convert data like bank accounts or credit profiles into zero-knowledge proofs. This is especially relevant for lending products that rely on external risk signals. • @hypersignchain builds interoperable identity modules for Cosmos chains. Users attest to specific claims like age or personhood, choose what attribute to share, and maintain control over data. • @PrivadoID integrates institutional pilots and serves as a backend identity framework for dApps, allowing credential issuance in a decentralized fashion, preserving user privacy while enabling the verification flow. • On Solana, the Solana Attestation Service launched in May. It embeds compliance into the runtime with no external steps needed. Developers can set gating rules, while users pass or fail based on proofs. It is already being tested in staking pools and prediction markets. ---- Now, imagine Kaito modified to use zk KYC. Users will link their wallets, submit verification via an off-chain provider, then receive a reusable credential, and enter the pledging phase. This will enable a smoother user experience and stronger privacy. And for developers and builders, it allows regulatory compliance while avoiding liability for personal data storage. We are moving from theory to reality. If launchpads, lending platforms, governance systems, and others begin to request identity credentials, zk-KYC is an essential infrastructure.
