This guy is starting to piss me off.

1/ 2kms in 7.5 mins — even in Puzhudhivakkam, Chennai, at 9am is a risky proposition. Imagine smaller, denser cities like Bangalore.

2/ Averages are a convenient metric for the Goyals. It doesn’t have to show anything about their responsibility for ridership safety, welfare, etc.

3/ Ask any rider partner, it seems.

I once had a delivery partner who had tears in his eyes, pleading for 50 Rs. I didn’t have change, gave him a 100 and said, “bring back change next time.” He sighed and said, “I would never have 50 Rs. to return to you.” He had children to feed and no money for petrol to go for the next delivery.

Another time, I had a delivery partner hand me his resume (he was a graduate) requesting recommendations, because he doesn’t even make 10k after expenses.

I was at a sweet store one day and a delivery partner walked in. The store had customers, but not crowded. There were empty benches to sit in the store. Still the owner asked the delivery partner to wait outside (in midday chennai heat).

Ive asked several of them about their work (Uber, Ola, Dunzo, Zepto, Zomato, Swiggy, Urban Company — all types).

Happy are those who need the freedom not to do work. A retired beautician who only works with people in her neighbourhood in her spare time. A college student doing it part time.

Everyone else is miserable. One must be closing their eyes with Armani sunglasses not to see!
