@ladytime11 @KristanHawkins Killing someone who isn't attacking you with deadly force isn't self defense. And bodily autonomy has limits, you don't get to use your body to kill someone and call it a right. Do you even believe in objective right and wrong? Where does your morality come from?

@ladytime11 @KristanHawkins "It's inside me, therefore I can kill it". You've just stated that as fact, but you haven't shown how you can logically justify the latter by the former. People aren't parasites, and the goal ought to be to save both.

@ladytime11 @KristanHawkins I don't understand how you are jumping from "inside body, using organs" to "secondary, and acceptable to murder". To be honest, without a Christian worldview, none of this is going to make sense to you. Know that Christ gave His life for sinners, even though He was perfect.

@ladytime11 @KristanHawkins Maternal–fetal medicine is an entire specialization dedicated to treating both mom and baby as patients. And sentience is just as arbitrary as skin color, sex, ethnic background, or any other attribute people use to say that some humans are not as valuable as others.

@bbernstein3 @LilaGraceRose Yes, in modern America, after centuries of being influenced by Christian ethics, we consider rape and murder to be immoral. But we don't need to look that far back to see terrible things approved of by the majority (slavery, holocaust, human sacrifice, etc).

@bbernstein3 @LilaGraceRose All laws impose morality. I'm sure you agree that at least some laws are good and necessary. Not everyone is going to agree with you though, and you'll need to impose it on them, democratically. This is already how it works.

@bbernstein3 @LilaGraceRose I'm sorry for your losses, truly. I would be opposed to the initial IVF, for reasons already stated. As for the already created humans, without knowing specific details, a surrogate is not immoral, with the alternatives being certain death, permanent cryofreeze, or abandonment.

@bbernstein3 @LilaGraceRose Why is imposing God's morality (not my own, higher authority) bad, but imposing my own morality (not from God) acceptable? Between two people, who's morality is better? Societal consensus doesn't work either, just looking back through history.

@bbernstein3 @LilaGraceRose Your family and slavery are obviously very different, I wasn't equating the two. I was equating the argument used "don't like X, don't do X". I don't doubt your familial love, but intentions and methods matter, not just the final outcome.

@bbernstein3 @LilaGraceRose I do believe that even if I'm free not to take part in a particular evil, that there is a duty to oppose and end societal evils, especially when they hurt our neighbors. People used to say "don't like slavery, don't own slaves". I would've opposed slavery as well.

@bbernstein3 @LilaGraceRose Every single law legislates and imposes morality on others. If everyone agreed on something, we wouldn't need a law. Some people want to rape, murder, and steal, but thankfully, enough people imposed their morality on them through laws. This is how democracy works.

@bbernstein3 @LilaGraceRose I have close relationships with many people who can't conceive and I mourn with them. It's not easy to live with that, but ultimately God is the one who opens and closes wombs. I praise God for every child born through IVF, but despise the method.

@bbernstein3 @LilaGraceRose I am against surrogacy, IVF, sperm/egg donation, and abortion in general. They are not the same thing, but sometimes go hand in hand. God intended procreation through one method; outside of that is sin. I am not against treatments that attempt to restore natural sexual function.

@bbernstein3 @LilaGraceRose I don't have firsthand experience, rather, this is what I've heard through couples that have "adopted" abandoned embryos. After digging a bit more, it's still unclear to me if you're directly buying the embryo or not. They're considered property, and not persons however.

@techhsiren Before pursuing Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodox, or anything, just read God's word, the bible. The four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) are a good place to start (John especially). There are lots of groups that call themselves Christian, but aren't.
