If Republicans were not pro-life, I would not be a Republican. The main point of conservative politics is to further the pro-life cause. Nothing should be considered more important than saving lives.
Would you choose to endure eternal torture in hell so that that any one person of your choice could go to heaven?
Would you do so in any random person’s place?
Would you do so even if the person was, like, Hitler?
@Kisson_thelips Don't take my prior argument too seriously here as I'm kind of conflicted myself; ofc Jesus commands of us selfless and sacrificial love in imitation of him
@Kisson_thelips Are you questioning God’s moral judgment if your answer is yes, to any of them? Are you comfortable overriding that person’s individual conscience in so doing? God seems to value individual conscience very highly!
@RealTweetofMe I respect and value Him so much I wouldn’t question his judgment were He to allow us to do that to ourselves, nor would I accuse Him of allowing it were it not that His word seems to me to affirm that He does.
I relate to the conundrum though
@Brockster310@musicbynimbvs 2 people = anecdotal evidence that doesn’t generalize to the broader population. Hit me with a poll if that’s what you’re after
@Brockster310@musicbynimbvs This is called nutpicking, news orgs like MSNOW and Fox News do this all the time. I grew up in a red rural area, I know what they’re like.
@musicbynimbvs@Brockster310 I am from the Midwest, but it’s worth noting that a solid majority of American social conservatives live outside the Deep South, and that social conservatives in the South are not uniformly racist even if we accept the premise that a majority there are
@seashelljulia Tbf I have not been one of those arguing Hank is a surefire three-time Trump voter and soon-to-be Paxton voter. He probably votes Abbott though.
Hank Hill by the time of the reboot is essentially a Democrat. He’s a non-racist mainline Protestant from a fairly cosmopolitan small city who isn’t socially conservative and spent a decade in another country. He’d just vote straight Dem.
@seashelljulia Bush voted Condi in 2020, French was voted third party in 2016/2020 and Harris in ‘24, Rose I believe voted Trump all 3 times with heavy reluctance. I’m pretty certain they all vote R downballot.
@seashelljulia There are lots of quite sober-minded Americans whose moral convictions about abortion, family, and gender are very conservative but which do not stem from hatred or manifest in personal intolerance. David French, Lila Rose, George W. Bush, etc.
@HybridGrizzly@biskitisgood123 I’m skeptical that it’s not how most people use the term, but it’s how the Wikipedia article on it defines it and it’s how I meant it in the original post
@HybridGrizzly@biskitisgood123 Cultural issues are separate from “social conservatism” in that social conservatism refers to fairly specific views about sanctity of life and conjugal marriage
