I have a question, how do you put your emotions under control when you lose a trade and when you win big?
Would appreciate your honest response.
The new year is here, and for a lot of us, making money is our #1 goal.
Some of us talk about money so much that we take little time to think about how it is actually made. Some keep imagining a lucky hit, while others swear to do whatever it takes, even though they donโt have proficiency in any skill.
Thereโs a lot of advice about making money, and most times, those seeking advice are those who lack the ability to work for it.
I would say making money is easy, but you have to know how. You can make money with your hands, your legs, your head (brain), your mouth, your eyes, and even your environment.
Yes, you have what it takes. But do you know how to use it?
When I started trying to make a buck (Iโm not far gone though, so we can go together if you care to join me), I tried a couple of things. I worked in a 12-hour/day, 7-days/week workplace, and it was draining. I still know some old colleagues who were there before me and still work there, but for me, it was too draining. I then switched gears to try to increase my earnings by getting lucky. I signed up on @superteamearn, and there I realized that sometimes we donโt lack opportunitiesโweโre just not prepared. I tried my hand at some bounties and won a few, but I learned a lot.
My first lesson: You donโt know how unprepared you are until you step in to do the work.
I was fluent in the English language, and I had @ChatGPTapp to support my content organization, but I found out that I didnโt really have the research and storytelling ability I imagined I had. That was because I hadnโt honed it. Looking at content from rivals, I realized the need to build myself to a position of rare capability in order to shake off competition and stand out.
My second lesson: It takes time to level up.
Beyond realizing that I had some leveling up to do, it was also interesting to learn that leveling up takes time. Loss after loss, I gave up more times than I motivated myself, until the last straw that sent me in my current direction. But during the time I spent continually making attempts, I realized that every piece of content was better than the previous one โ the outline, the content, and the presentation. This made me care much less about the fact that I still lost and instead commend myself for getting better. I kept this close to heart and focused on taking all the time I needed for self-development and understanding.
My third lesson: Your breakthrough may not come from the middle of the crowd.
Alongside the other lessons, I realized that exploring outside your current path can also be beneficial. Although I started out and made a lot of progress in the Superteam community, my first big break was outside the ecosystem. I got my first $100 from community interactions with $ICP, and my first job with @Suioncampus (Iโm still here and hope we do a lot together). This was not what I pictured earlier when I joined the @superteamNG community. Starting somewhere is a prerequisite, but it is not an enclave where you should remain stuck when you begin to desire something different. Be open to switching paths, and make sure you leave value where you are and take value to where you are going. I still have a good relationship with my former community, and Iโm doing my bit to build my current one.
My fourth lesson: You are as valuable as what you can offer.
(This will be my final lesson in this piece.)
I learned that you are judged by the value you bring. A lot of people fail to grasp this, yet it is the most important principle to carry with you as you aim to acquire and maintain a continuous source of income in the new year.
While you prepare yourself, target opportunities, and lock in that gig or job, you also need a plan to retain it for as long as possible and get the most out of the opportunities available there. Sometimes we get comfortable, especially when a job involves repetitive tasks, and we forget to advance and upgrade ourselves โ until demand shifts suddenly and we are found wanting. At that point, we lose before we even get the chance to prove ourselves.
So, while you are locked into a particular gig or job, learn from it, improve the process, and, if possible, explore other methods that produce better outcomes. If you work with a particular project or brand, showcase your other skills to demonstrate your ability to handle higher positions and roles. That way, your abilities can attract better opportunities.
Also, donโt forget to never sell yourself short. Make sure you are getting fair compensation for the contribution you are making. This doesnโt always mean cash alone โ there can be balance through relationships, learning resources, opportunities, and work experience that make you more comfortable and settled working with or for them.
In all, as you plan to go for everything this year, make sure you are ready to give your best, get the best, and be the best. This is not a call to compete with the crowd; it is a call to ensure that you are at your best.
