@ericjang11 1. Started with ROS.
2. Decided to replace with homegrown solution (was pre ROS2).
3. Replaced ROS with a homegrown solution.
4. Been running in production for over 4 years now, working okay.
Today, I'd probably still start with something like ROS2+RTI, then consider replacing.
@ericjang11 I do think ROS(2) ecosystem is sometimes overrated. RViz is a dinosaur that's been superseded by Foxglove. The build and packaging system is still abysmal. Lack of solutions for things like OTA updates (still have to rely on products like Balena). The list goes on.
@jokrvivek Interesting. Bazel is cool for C++/Java ecosystems, but comes with a lot of extra complexity and lacks proper support for most other languages. Why wasn't Cargo enough by itself?
@tobi More importantly, the "we'e made mistakes, we own them up, we've learned from them, we'll try something different now" attitude. We need to see more of this in politics.
@_buames It's always been interesting working with you and hearing your perspective on product and people, man. Thanks for keeping it real, and for preserving your integrity at all times.
Iโm entering hospice today. Will probably update every little if at all. But I wanted to say to be kind, be brave, be principled, be an idealist. Most importantly, be a decent human.
I love that we existed together, in this moment of time.
Thrilled to unveil our 3rd generation Serve robot! The are smarter, faster, and more efficient than ever. All that with a 50% cost reduction. Ready to transform more cities in 2025 ๐
@mipsytipsy Great stuff. Now do observability for robotics. Extremely scarce CPU and memory, limited bandwidth and disk space, combination of real-time and high-latency high-resolution historical insights. The industry is ripe.
