The bad news: a tropical mosquito known to transmit viruses like Zika, dengue and chikungunya has been found breeding in east London for the first time.
The good news: the immediate risk of catching one of these viruses in London is still very low.
Here’s how climate change may be weakening Britain’s defences against mosquito-borne disease: https://t.co/SD7O58lpC2 via @ConversationUK.
‘No vaccine guarantees 100% protection.’ Takeda’s Peter Streibl says QDENGA showed more than 80% efficacy against dengue-related hospitalisation & more than 60% against severe dengue. @RichhariyaSneha speaks to him about what it could mean for India:

Kenya is experiencing an upsurge in #dengue fever, with cases now spreading to the coastal region.

New in @JAMANetworkOpen: Phase 2 results for Dengue-mAb show the first proof of concept for an antiviral as a treatment for confirmed dengue patients seeking medical care. At 5–7mg/kg, it rapidly cut viremia and fever, with no related serious AEs.

Dengue once arrived (and left) with India’s monsoon. Now health workers in Delhi say there is barely an off season, as warmer temperatures and changing rainfall patterns allow virus-carrying mosquitoes to breed and spread disease year-round. 🧵
Dengue is the fastest emerging VBD.Climate change & human behavior are making it more complicated. DGCI has given approval to 1st dengue vaccine QDENGA of Takeda. May be available by next year. We need new therapeutics & vaccines for dengue. @ICMRDELHI@DNDi@ghs@DeptHealthRes
We're pleased to announce that we have signed a licensing agreement with the @SerumInstIndia to support the development of what could become the world's first specific treatment for dengue.

As climate change expands #dengue risk, data and innovation can help communities stay ahead of outbreaks.
In Bangladesh, @UNDP_BD is supporting a real-time dashboard that uses predictive analytics to strengthen dengue surveillance and response.
#WorldDengueDay
Climate change, urbanization, and travel are accelerating the spread of #Dengue. Children, the elderly, and those with health conditions face the highest risk. This #WorldDengueDay, we must unite to protect communities everywhere from this growing threat. #BeatNTDs
At 10 years old, Aisake Junior thought he was going to die of #dengue. His father took him to the hospital and followed public health advice.
This happened during last year’s dengue outbreak in Tonga – the worst in 10 years – with over 900 cases and 3 dengue-related deaths.
#DidYouKnow: With dengue, the initial fever can subside in the first 2-3 days, giving a false sense of hope.
➡️ It’s important to look out for signs of severe dengue, including abdominal pain or bleeding in the mouth and nose. If these happen, it's critical to seek health care quickly.
Spent years at @DNDi watching funders pass on #dengue because it doesn't kill the way it scares. Now Malaysia is joining Phase III trials for a treatment developed by @SerumInstIndia, running across Malaysia, Thailand, Brazil. Global south story start to finish.
