@EcoLifeHannah It is absurd. @agenciapublica has a few reports on their impact in the Amazon. We have many reports explaining their flawed logic.

🌳🖨️💲 Green bonds, payments for ecosystem services, nature credits & offsets are premised on the financialization of nature.

To date, they haven't raised enough money and have harmed local communities & indigenous peoples.

Launching the RIS Daksh Policy Hub | UNFCCC COP 31 Negotiations

As momentum towards UNFCCC COP31 builds, RIS continues to deepen its engagement with climate change issues and international processes.

We are pleased to launch the RIS Daksh Policy Hub, Daksh meaning skill and proficiency, to strengthen policy research through expert interactions, practical training and interdisciplinary learning.

As part of the RIS Daksh Policy Hub, we began with a two-day workshop on “UNFCCC Negotiations: Key Issues and Perspectives” (23-24 October), in collaboration with the Third World Network (TWN) (@3rdworldnetwork ), ahead of UNFCCC COP31.

It was a pleasure interacting with Mr. Indrajit Bose, Dr. Radhika Chatterjee and Ms. Ranja Sengupta from TWN, whose expertise brings valuable perspectives on international climate negotiations and the priorities of developing countries.

This follows last month’s RIS-UNEP India dialogue, “Connecting Nature and Climate”, held ahead of CBD COP17 and UNFCCC COP31 to explore the links between biodiversity and climate action.

Looking ahead to UNFCCC COP31 and engaging with the conversations shaping global climate action.

The Loss and Damage fund has approved a decision to set aside $21.6m for Nepal’s flood recovery efforts.

While DCJ welcomes this allocation, it has raised concerns over delays in disbursing the funds & inadequate levels of support.

New report by @Earth_Insight finds major gaps in key biodiversity protection areas. More than 61.5 million hectares of protected areas across tropical countries overlap with oil and gas blocks, while another 42.7 million overlap with mining concessions.

Yet governments struggle to fund crises that never happen. Experts at the @WorldHealthSmt called for a shift in priorities.

Mirna Inés Fernández (TWN) argues that market-based approaches to fund biodiversity conservation are sold as the solution. But they only benefit certification agencies & North countries while threatening indigenous communities who steward conservation on the ground. #COP17

[Third World Network @3rdworldnetwork]

Nele Marien @FoEint talks about how Investor-State Dispute Settlement is a mechanism entrenched in trade agreements that gives companies the right to sue governments for billions of dollars. Reforming this system must be contemplated in biodiversity conservation talks at #COP17.

Audrey Irvine-Broque (@UBC) says that while the Biodiversity Implementation Framework (KMGBF) cannot alone dismantle the financial architecture and its rules driving destruction, it must clearly name them and establish a work programme to challenge them. #COP17

Ahead of #COP31, developing countries at the IPCC fear that rushed assessments risk excluding Global South research.

The 43% emissions-cut benchmark for 2030 illustrates how global figures can obscure unequal burdens and equity concerns.
