Frederick Douglas was a great man and a credit to the Republicans who put him in a position where he was able to do most good for everyone, including the ex-slaves. Their hard-won equality in government was short-lived for many years, I'm afraid, after the democrats feverishly fought against it, but his contributions will always be felt in the minds of the truly free.

LETTER FROM FREDERICK DOUGLASS TO HARRIET TUBMAN

Rochester, August 29, 1868

Dear Harriet,

I am glad to know that the story of your eventful life has been written by a kind lady, and that the same is soon to be published. You ask for what you do not need when you call upon me for a word of commendation. I need such words from you far more than you can need them from me, especially where your superior labors and devotion to the cause of the lately enslaved of our land are known as I know them.

The difference between us is very marked. Most that I have done and suffered in the service of our cause has been in public, and I have received much encouragement at every step of the way. You, on the other hand, have labored in a private way. I have wrought in the day – you in the night. I have had the applause of the crowd and the satisfaction that comes of being approved by the multitude, while the most that you have done has been witnessed by a few trembling, scarred, and foot-sore bondmen and women, whom you have led out of the house of bondage, and whose heartfelt, “God bless you,” has been your only reward.

The midnight sky and the silent stars have been the witnesses of your devotion to freedom and of your heroism. Excepting John Brown – of sacred memory – I know of no one who has willingly encountered more perils and hardships to serve our enslaved people than you have. Much that you have done would seem improbable to those who do not know you as I know you. It is to me a great pleasure and a great privilege to bear testimony for your character and your works, and to say to those to whom you may come, that I regard you in every way truthful and trustworthy.

A rescue operation is currently underway in the Kyiv region following a Russian missile strike. As of now, dozens of people have been reported injured. It has also been confirmed that, tragically, sіх people were killed. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Efforts to determine exactly what happened and the fate of those affected are ongoing. All necessary emergency services are on the scene.

There were also casualties in Slovyansk following guided aerial bomb strikes. Five people were killed. My condolences to their families. Nine others were injured. The Russians damaged ordinary homes, the consulate building, and vehicles.

These were brutal attacks on civilians, and the Russians must be held accountable for them. Russia has long abandoned any regard for international norms – and for human values. Their only interest is in continuing the killing. It is important that our partners fully understand that protecting lives also depends on them. Interceptors for Patriot systems are the number one priority.

The Baker of the Titanic 😲
The Titanic had many stories… but you probably haven’t heard this one.
Meet Charles Joughin — the Chief Baker aboard the Titanic. He had two great passions: baking bread and drinking. And on the night the world’s most famous ship hit an iceberg, he put both to good use.
That evening, Charles was enjoying his usual ritual in his private cabin — sipping from a flask and checking on his homemade moonshine still (perks of unlimited yeast). Then came the deep, ominous scrape along the starboard hull. Without panic, he grabbed his flask and stepped onto the deck — just in time to hear Captain Smith give the order to prepare the lifeboats.
What did Charles do?
He gathered his team of bakers and personally organized the distribution of bread to the lifeboats — calories mattered in survival. Then he returned to his room... for more whiskey.
When it was time to board lifeboat #10 — the one he was assigned to command — he gave up his seat to another crewman and stayed behind, calm and buzzed.
Eventually, with all lifeboats gone, Charles stood alone on the sinking ship, tossing deck chairs into the ocean — dozens of them — to serve as flotation for anyone left in the freezing water.
And yes, he kept drinking the whole time.
As the Titanic’s stern rose high, Charles calmly stepped over the rail…The ship sank beneath him without pulling him under. He swam in the icy Atlantic for over four hours — with dry hair and a surprisingly steady mind. When rescued, Second Officer Lightoller (who had assumed Charles was doomed) was stunned to find him alive.
Charles believed it was the alcohol that kept his blood from freezing and his nerves from shattering. He survived. Helped others survive. And walked away from one of history’s greatest disasters.
Afterward? He went back to sea. Kept baking. Kept drinking. Survived two more shipwrecks. Lived to 78. And today, his gravestone reads:
“The Baker of the Titanic.”
A man who toasted life — even as the ocean closed in.

BREAKING: JUSTICE! A judge sentences the man who murdered Democratic lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark to two two life terms plus 40 years on top.

This is what we've been praying for...

U.S. District Court Judge John R. Tunheim described it as “the longest sentence I have imposed after hearing thousands of cases over the years, but I do believe it is deserved.”

The murderer, Vance Boelter, pleaded guilty last month to killing the former Minnesota House Speaker and her spouse. He also critically wounded state Senator John Hoffman and his wife Yvette.

“The defendant looked me in the eyes and pulled the trigger. The defendant looked at my wife and chose to do the same,” said Hoffman. “My wife and I now live with injuries. We live with our bodies remembering the gunfire.”

“I miss my mom. I miss my dad. I miss my best friends. And I miss believing in the goodness of humanity. I hope that one day these aches feel less sharp. And I know just like the love I feel for my parents, the pain will never go away,” said the Hortmans daughter Sophie.

“My days are filled with gray, and the blood that was spilled is the last thing I see before I go to sleep and the first thing I see when I wake,” said their son Colin. “There is no sentence that weighs 15 gunshots, a murdered dog and the rest of my life.”

Authorities discovered a likely "kill list" inside Boelter's vehicle that contained roughly 70 names of abortion rights advocates, abortion providers, and prominent Democrats. This is what happens when conservative media relentlessly brainwashes a large swath of the country into thinking that liberals are "demonic" and trying to destroy America.

This tragic assassination has gone largely ignored by President Trump and Republicans, because they are desperate to push the lie that political violence in this country is primarily a left-wing phenomenon. In reality, the data shows that it is overwhelmingly carried out by right-wingers.

In fact, when Trump was asked directly why he had not U.S. flags lowered to half-staff for Hortman and her husband, he disgustingly replied: "I'm not familiar. The who?"

Thankfully, we need not rely on our monstrous President to dispense justice in this country. The courts just handled that and this killer will spend the rest of his miserable life behind bars.

Good riddance.
