I think about billionaires a lot (kinda my job?) so let me say this:
Most every billionaire on the planet would happily kill you for an extra few points on their investment. This isn't theoretical, it literally happens. They literally make decisions they know will kill people.
A huge component to why Americans are so trigger happy is the nonstop media coverage on crime. All day every day the news tells people they’re at risk of violent crime, which has led to your average American being paranoid, antisocial and ready to harm ANY perceived threat
Sadly this is because the trails are being built on what was a very extensive and interconnected network of rail ROW, and building a trail on that pisses off railfans and transit advocates. We DID have connectivity before, with trains. Walking is not a happier option!
Today City Council approved another $9 million to victims of former MPD Derek Chauvin. Settlements for Chauvin alone have cost our city $36 million. Officers who were present during these brutal actions are still on the police force.
Council Member Chughtai, extrapolating the average cost to the city based on encampment removals cited in the document:
➡️45-60 evictions in three years
➡️$120,000 per eviction
➡️$5.5-7 million
Speculative math: cost per unhoused Minneapolis resident is about $15-20k.
If a community rejects a policy for cause, that policy has caused irreparable harm in that community, the Mayor gives no significant reasoning to mitigate the cause and rams it into community anyway at significant cost to them - isn’t he setting up a volatile confrontation?
@melvincarter3 Please, don’t do this. St. Paul sales tax is high enough as it is. Want to raise some $ for the city, start enforcing parking restrictions. It’s an open secret downtown - meters are NEVER enforced. Street parking is free, and not just on Sundays
